I must admit, Grammar Nazi though I am, even I got bored with this. To be fair, Batty kept it fun for me, but the rest turned out to be a little, er, po-faced. I quickly realised that I had better things to do than constantly checking threads for new posts to see who had misspelled or used wrong grammar, and I did voice a worry in our group that this could make people uncomfortable.

I wouldn't agree with Big3's idea that it was "kids who had nothing better to do" --- I'm far from a kid and I have plenty to do. But I thought it would be fun. The problem is I think a) too many people took it way too seriously and conversely b) a lot of people didn't take it seriously enough. Honestly, there is no way I could have seen me carrying this on for a week: a day felt like a week.

I think it was a good idea in principle, but perhaps one day might have been enough and we definitely ended up spamming the other threads, as the lovely Roxy pointed out. We had fun, but others did not, and in fact felt sort of threatened by or annoyed at the fun we were having (which is not surprising, as we were really having it at their expense) so it was time to call a halt.

I would have preferred a PM to Pet Sounds asking him to cut the thing short rather than an out-and-out UberNazi Urban "this ends now", but point taken. I did learn some things from it though, most interesting of which was that I am not perfect. This is something I will have to ruminate (I said RUMINATE, you dirty...!) upon and contemplate in the coming days. It has come as a shock to me, I can tell you.

On behalf of I think/hope all* the Sturmgruppens of the Grammar Nazis I would like to offer our apologies if we offended anyone. I'm sure it was not intentional, though the was badly executed (oops! Bad choice of words!) and if we were to do this again I think it's taken as read that we would have to be a lot more circumspect.

Anyway, certainly for my part I'm sorry if we overstepped and I'm sure I can rely on you all as character witnesses at our upcoming trials at Nuremberg ... what's that you say? When Satan is what to work?

Oxfordis in extremis, my friends. Oxfordis moderatus.
Peace.
TH

* Obviously, this is unlikely to include Batty, who loves annoying and getting a rise out of people and was probably in his element here.

Oh, and anyone (I'm looking at you Batty!) who thinks it might be funny to grammatically correct this, please don't. The joke has worn wafer thin and I think we all agree it's now over. Let it lie, menschen und frauleins!
