Oooh! I forgot about that. I did that a couple of times when I was younger with my parents and one of my sisters. These past few years, though, my dad has only been able to get away from work around late July, and it gets just brutally hot around the 20th of July, so we skipped doing it. Also, the town made getting a license for doing it in other areas really difficult to get these past few years.

You did which? Kayaking? I assume no one would go out and dredge oysters for fun.

No dredging for oysters. As a kid I thought it was kind of fun, yeah, but not when it was 95 degrees outside.

I think we're talking about two pretty different experiences. I'm talking about spending all day on a flatbed type boat with nowhere to sit down, repeatedly hauling a very heavy dredge, by hand, up from the bottom of the bay to fill crates with oysters until there's no room left on the boat to even move.

ok well uuhh....the only thing i've ever done with oysters is eat them out of a can. i can't think of anything i've 'dredged', which is a damn shame.
but if i may:

yachats, oregon would be it for me.
now i'm back in hot-as-hell austin and kicking myself for it.

Florence is another fantastic spot on the Oregon coast.

Oregon coast >>>>>>> Washington coast

florence - there's a little coffee shop latched on to a 76 gas station at the intersection there. many hours spent talking to locals last summer. it's good to come in from the coast and get some sunshine every few weeks. that's the only part that bummed me out, the cloudiness.
