Default Has Music Banter got less cool?

When I first joined most people seemed to be listening to neat little indie bands, pretty cool hip-hop and the 'classic' albums we discussed were usually from the 90's at earliest. I thought most people listened to pretty cool music.

Granted, new members have joined, old members left. But...

Now, the majority of users seem to lean towards AOR and dad rock. Too much discussion about early prog rock, the big four of metal and other uncool bands.
Y'all sounding like you're 40 and wearing 20 year old band shirts to keep up with the kids.
Plus there's been an alarming rise in dumb pop fanatics. Seriously guys, Iggy Azaela? She's whiter than this post.

Where's all the cool music at? Have you got less cool over the last three years.
Discuss.

Spoiler: I think you have.

Yes. A site populated by socially-challenged nerds talking about things that nobody else on Earth gives even the smallest flying **** about has become less cool.

I would say there was way more discussion of 60s/70s rock during my first few years here than there is now. There was also hardly any hip-hop discussion when I first joined.

Yeah, you have no idea how much hard rock was discussed when I joined. It dominated the boards in a way that no forum has since on MB.

For me personally it has gotten cooler, im more used to ppl's personalities and taste and i have met a couple members with a similar taste to mine.

i have to agree though that most of the outspoken members are into progressive rock or metal which sadly im not really into, i mean i like a couple of bands here or there but it's not my genre of choice.

Apart from the pixies which alot of ppl here reference, my fav bands don't get mentioned alot and there is no active discussions on their threads so it seems pointless to talk about them sometimes (at least in my case) that's why i mostly use the lounge to socialise or music threads that don't focus on a single artist and you can talk about different ones at any point in the thread.

It's just littered with album covers and one line about an album.

Mostly posted by myself.

Aside from them im a big fan of Deerhoof, Of montreal, Guided by voices, The misfits, the stranglers, Sonic youth, the violent femmes, They might be giants, etc

i know alot of ppl like them but there is not alot of talk about them and i don't bring them up cause they feel played out, idk why but i assume either ppl already know them and are sick of them already or they are simply not interested in them because i don't see them bringing them up, ya know?

I have to admit though, my knowledge in music is pretty limited i like alot of bands by individual songs but i don't seek out all their cds cause i don't like them THAT much, i only know the history of the bands i REALLY like, others i don't know enough to get into a serious discussion about them.

Which ones do you like? i only know you like the talking heads.

Just saw these guys earlier in the week and they are one of my top 5 live bands of all time. Dont understand why more people are not talking about them.
