Your Digital Footprint
Just a random thought I was pondering this evening...
Do you ever worry about the digital footprint you are creating online? Do you use a lot of social media and if so, what do you think the consequences are? Very open-ended so feel free to direct the discussion whichever way you will. |

The only thing I use is Twitter and I'm very careful about what I tweet about & don't use my full name on it.
I've never been big on social networking though so doubt there'd be anything online I've done that is worth worrying about, other than my posts on forums tbh. |

I don't use ANY social media, as most people here know. But I am on several forums and, being the clever chap I am, use the same username (and usually password) everywhere I go. One of these days someone's a-gonna hack my accounts and then I'll be in trub. Big trub.

I have a few user names that are kind of similar but they are all attached to my fake name that I use everywhere so I don't care much.

I remember a time Conan got worried because he said he was applying for a job and his (possible future) employer would do a background check would could lead them to finding this site. I think he was worried about them finding our about all the cussing he did. I guess that got me thinking whether my job would do the same to see what I say online.
Also NSA spying on e-mails got me thinking maybe in the near future things we say online could be used against us maybe during tax audit - like when you didn't pay the tariff or state taxes when you bought something from an online site. I am more worried about phishing and how much I reveal online. I am always worried someone is making a portfolio of me and collecting all the vital information for identity theft. I always wonder where that weighs in at like is it paranoia or excessive worrying or just being conscience and cautious of what could happen.

If you want to see something creepy, install the Lightbeam plugin in Firefox. It creates dynamic diagrams of who is tracking your movements as you travel from place to place on the web.
