If by local you mean beer that is located near me, ie any beer within walking/skating distance, than yeah. beer is beer, what possible benefit does drinking exclusively beers from local breweries have?

The freshness. The best beer I ever had was at a Harpoon tent at my wife's race. They just kegged it the day before. It was so different. Fresh!
