And orgy is a drunken party that gets out of control, generally involving sex.

An orgasm is sexual climax (note: it is not the climax of a sexual experience, but it marks a specific point in the sexual encounter if it occurs. The climax of physical and sensual pleasure, with related hormonal release).

The word "orgasm" is French, and its literal meaning is "small death". The primary thing that an orgasm and a sneeze have in common is that they both require the body's vital functions (heartbeat, breathing, etc.) to cease entirely for a fraction of a second, because they require the full extent of the bodies energy. So in the case of a sneeze and an orgasm you are clinically dead during the brief moment that it occurs.

I get the feeling that, right or wrong, the term "small death" has a less clinical meaning, and is more along the lines of glorifying the orgasm. Feeling reborn after it. The orgasm is the ecstasy or the "small death" and then the feeling of freshness due to the wash of hormones afterwards puts the person in mind of being born again. Considering that at the time such language was developing, I dare say people had less medical knowledge and felt a lot more artsy. It probably also refers to the female orgasm (which is 10 times more powerful than the male one).

"Did you know?"

If you sneezed, coughed, burped, broke wind, and had an "O" (don't want to write the O word) all at the same time you would die!

That is so wierd Satchmo, I just wrote a similar thing to you, but nowhere as eliquently. That is such a brilliant take on the "O".

Personally I think it's the French, or those that implemented Orgasm into the language, being complete f*g heads and reading too deeply into a given situation, but each to their own.

All very true, and yes that little biological factoid is a reference to the female orgasm. I should have been more specific.
