My mother is from Germany, and I once had a roommate from Germany who had a lot of friends. During the latter there were some days when I heard more German than English!

German, to me, is a somewhat harsh sounding language with a lot of sort-of guttural sounds and an excess of 's' sounds and soft consonants. Not the worst sounding language in the world, but also not what I would call melodious either.
