Caffeine. Quit smoking years ago and changed my diet so I guess my other addiction is exercise or I should say life is my addiction and why I live healthy now.

I have a compulsive skin-picking problem. When it's REALLY bad, I pick at my legs to the point where I'm left with 100+ little wounds/scabs. (It was very bad recently, but I'm trying to stop and let my legs heal) But then I'll go years without picking at my legs at all, so I'm sure what triggers it. I pick at my cuticles and lips all the time though. Oftentimes to the point where the skin around some of my fingers will become swollen and red and painful, making it very difficult to do things like twist a lid off a container or do just about anything involving my fingers.

I don't understand, how do you even "pick" at your skin to the point of making small wounds? You pinch your skin or what?

It's not pinching, no, it's picking. It's just a small repetitive digging/scratching motion with my nail in one tiny area at a time. It's a mindless sort of thing. As a result, when I'm in a leg-picking phase, the entire bottom half of my legs are always COVERED in tiny little scabs and wounds. Showering can be painful as a result. But they're healing now. I tried fake nails for a while, which worked but they come off too easily. (had to use the press on kind since I'd rather not go to a nail salon during a pandemic)
It's so very hard to resist. One thing that helps is just constantly putting on lotion and hand cream so that I'm like an ultra moisturized snail, making my skin too slippery to pick at, but I'm constantly forgetting to do so.
