I remember as a kid I heard people talk about pen-pals. I thought it be cool to write to someone in another country and talk about music. I never did go about getting a pen-pal.

I think belonging MB is a lot like the whole correspondence concept of a pen-pal. Except for the fact you can not return to sender the post by people you don't care to read. You can put them on the ignore list, but those posts still linger there for the rest of the forum to see.

How about you guys? Do you kept your MB alter-ego under wraps, or have you gone public and admitted to the world that you post in a music forum ?
Also, if you want to get philosophical, What does your decision say about you ? How does it affect the way you post?
Is there a reason to be ashamed?

Why?

^ Yes, I like MB because it is a literary way of communicating. There is the challenge of expressing your ideas, and the reward of receiving some recognition from friends and peers. Of course not everybody sees it as a literary exercise; I´m going to choose an example from Batlord, one because it´s on this page and two because I´m confident he´ll understand that I´m joking, not criticising. Anyway, here´s an example of non-literary posting:-

^ Those are very good questions, KF.

The reason I don´t tell anyone that I post here is because once it´s out there in the real world, I have no control over who knows. One friend tells another friend and before I know it my boss is reading my posts and my Auntie Matilda is saying, "If he can spare time for his MB friends, why can´t he write a letter to me?"

My reasons for keeping people out of my internet life is because I say a lot of things on here I would not normally say out in the real world. I wear a mask out in the real world, and take it off when I'm posting here. I've gone without the mask in real life and put it on when I post here a bit more lately though. The gist of it is I have secrets I'm not comfortable sharing, both online and off, so I tend to separate both things on the internet, and things in reality.

None of my homies know I'm here. If they do find out, then I am no longer the homie.
