I think you should just open up the conversation with so what bands do you like and see where it leads. Elaborate on what she is saying and offer your own opinions which should lead to more conversation then compliment her on what she is wearing.......

Woman I dated the most in my younger days was a flute player (and a very good one, too). I played guitar. yeah the pointy dress shoes and square toe dress shoes part need to be taken off of that list but I agree with everything else.
