The "friendzone" is quite clearly a thing. I have experienced it on both sides.
The problem I find with talking about these subjects is that I think people live completely individual lives and the idea that these circumstances can somehow affect everybody in the same way is quite absurd to me. I liked a girl, we became friends, she wasn't interested and that was the end. We are still friends and I now only like her as a friend. That is how I personally reacted/dealt with the situation. Same with the "Men are attracted to girls who are like their mother" discussion. To me it is completely ridiculous to make those claims as it not only takes away the individuality of each woman, but also makes out as though I have no control over who I like and what type of person I want to be with.
