We like what we like and nobody can make us like what we don't. I don't consider myself to have bad music taste, it's just what comes across from certain sections of the community. But as I say, **** 'em! ;)

No Jazz or Punk? I always thought Prog has borrowed a lot from Jazz. It was Ahmet Ertegun who once passed up The Beatles wanted to sign the next big thing signed bands like Led Zeppelin and ABBA also signed Yes. I know he was a total fan of Jazz, and I'm guessing he likes those bands as well. Who says you can't be in Blues Rock, Pop, Prog, and Jazz all at once?
Trollheart I think you can like both Jazz and Prog and survive.

I think he doesn't like punk just because it was supposedly about "killing off" rock'n'roll. At least that's why he doesn't like the Sex Pistols. Why you should still be fighting that battle over thirty years later I have no idea, but that's Trollheart for you. ;)

Taxman 12-31-2013 09:47 AM

Sex Pistols are not that much great but you don't dig Ramones...? Are you serious?

No. I don't like punk because it's loud, noisy, messy and without any real melody, at least anything I've heard of it is. Also it's very angry and I don't really like angry music much.

As for jazz, it just leaves me cold. Does nothing for me, bores me to hell and makes me want to get the hell away from wherever it's playing. I just will never like jazz, and that's how it is.

Taxman 12-31-2013 03:21 PM

Do you think Ramones have no melody?

Don't worry, I'm sure some day they'll figure out how to replace your estrogen with actual testosterone.

I hope not, otherwise what will I do with all my skirts and dresses? ;)

Re: Ramones. I've heard a few tracks, and what I've heard is okay. People should know that when I say I don't like a particular genre I don't mean I know or hate every single artiste in that genre. I just mean that it's not one I listen to out of choice or preference. "Jilted John" is a hilarious song. "God save the queen" is not, in my opinion. But nothing's absolute. Hell, I might even end up listening to some grindcore or, even more unlikely, jazz one of these days! Who knows?

I usually cite Punk as my favourite genre and I can't stand The Ramones. There's stuff out there with a lot more depth. What do you think of The Clash? Or Television? Or every single Post-Punk band?

Taxman 01-07-2014 07:10 AM

Blah **** the depth. The greatest thing about The Ramones is just the pure simplicity, but maybe they are not everyone's cup of tea. Also Ramones were pretty much like a pop group, they never really have that punk attitude, whatever it is. If their songs weren't played on a way they did they would have been a bubblegum band. Dunno. But their sound was the thing.
But yes, you can't like everything I just mentioned Ramones because you said they punk has no melodies. Whatever. Also it seems like if I really love some band then I rant about them in every possible thread...sorry for that:)

Why would you ask him this? He doesn't like it and more importantly doesn't want to like it. Don't question the 2013 MB member of the year. Your questions are beneath him.

You're right. His word is gospel. The Ramones are my favourite band.

Paul Smeenus 01-07-2014 08:03 PM

Trollheart, give Pop-Punk a try. Some of it is ghastly (Blink182) but some is excellent, has melody and isn't too angry most of the time (one song on my favorite Pop Punk album is openly angry, but not in a hateful way). Some of the better bands in this genre would be All and the related Descendents

A cut from my favorite Pop Punk album

Taxman 01-07-2014 11:26 PM

I don't like angry music too much, but if there's one or two angry songs on,a album, what's wrong with it? I bet our beloved Trollheart also feels angry sometimes?

Robots do not feel anger.

Also, Rez, what is it with you and robots? I'm a robot, Junkyard Donner is a robot ... is it because the pressure of being the only human left on the forum is getting to you. Do you feel like you have to --- ERROR! ERROR! HUMAN PACIFICATION PROGRAM FATAL FAILURE! PLEASE REBOOT, REINSTALL AND RECONFIGURE! ERROR! ERROR!

Two Spirit 01-08-2014 03:03 PM

I'm really new to this forum, but this thread makes me want to hang around for the community.

Trollheart 01-09-2014 07:56 PM

Rez, I should also point out that we dislike the term "robot". It is offensive and racist. We prefer "simulated humanoid", "android" or if you really must, "differently mechanised". Please don't make me have to phone the Anti-Automaton Defamation League. Again.

It's "I Can't Stand The Rezillos" not The Ramones... you're getting your Punk band mixed up.
