Life Is a Serious Business, Damnit!

Ever feel that most people take life too seriously? My children, my future, my career, my bank account, my car, my possessions, my reputation, my appearance, haha, sometimes it seems the species has gone mad reaching for things, gone mad interfering with things, mad with worry that they may not achieve the lofty expectations they set themselves.

And they're forever moaning about the things they encounter throughout life, surprised that the universe isn't unfolding as they hoped it would, as they epected it to. Craziest of all is their reaction when death comes to those around them, they sob and wail, as if the one thing guaranteed in life - death, was somehow unexpected. It's like they don't understand that the unspoken deal at birth is their body is borrowed for a brief and undisclosed amount of time, after which the universe takes it back and recycles it.

I appreciate this is somewhat of a sweeping generalisation of my fellow man, but it's true for most people I've met in life; and before the charge of hypocrisy is thrown my way, this ain't a moan, I ain't bitching, it's merely an amusing observation. Like the brilliant philosopher Democritus, I choose to laugh, not cry, at the madness in men (and that's where any similarity ends, haha).

Do you agree? Or am I the crazy fool here? Enlighten me.

Mr. Charlie 11-29-2013 11:02 AM

Not one reply? Haha. I really am the thread king.

So I'm the only one here who feels this way. Hah! Go figure. We'll all be dead soon.

Dulce 11-29-2013 09:28 PM

I F-ing agree with ya Mr. Charlie. Indeed.

Dulce 11-29-2013 09:29 PM

How about, the dangers of technology...

Does technology bring us together? Or isolate us?

Has it made you safer?

Does it make you stronger? Or weaker?

Does it empower us? Or enslave us?

Nah, you're not crazy Mr C. I'm a nurse so I see pain, suffering and death almost daily. I never take anything for granted and enjoy life to the full. I get sick of people whinging and whining about how crap their lives are. Go do voluntary work in a third world country and quit snivelling. Once you are over 18 years old, you are responsible for your own life and the choices you make.

Well, I don't think people take life - too - seriously.

In my opinion they just copy goals that everybody has, and don't think about their own wishes and that's why they'll probably never achieve a progress. Family, money and love is something you can't influence it seems. You can't change the circumstances and that's why I wouldn't 'plan' my life considering those points.

There's a difference in taking life seriously and creating life-schedule in my opinion.

Dulce 11-30-2013 12:18 AM

Sparky, you're not a douche.

for a while I wasn't taking life as seriously as I should have, and this afternoon I got a call from collections.

I'm taking care of the matter now but I wish I would have much earlier.

I almost went to jail because of my negligence.

That's why I'm so keen to finish my software studies so I can finally get my dream job. My first degree wasn't enough experience wise so I needed to learn a few more things. I've already had a couple of job offers but I really just want to wait until I'm done. I need to take my life somewhat seriously because I don't want to waste time, I've partied many, many times from 14 to 24. The last couple of years has slowed down due to my health so that's another thing I need to manage. I agree that a balance is needed. It also depends on how old you are and whether you've had time to let loose.

I think it also depends on your personality, goals, etc. Not everyone needs the fancy job, the kids, the car, the house. It took me many years to decide what I want to do and I have experience in multiple fields which gives me more options. If you're passionate about what you're doing in your life, you are most likely doing it right. Having different goals from others doesn't mean your path in life is any better or worse than other people. :)

I'm semi content with things. I'm 43 and still haven't got any idea on what I want to do or where I want to be. Always drifted through life ........I started off with nothing and still have most of it left
