Lyrics: how obssessed are you?
If I hear a song/album I like I've always had to know all the lyrics. Honestly, back in the days afore the Net I used to spend hours listening to my records/tapes, running them back and trying to catch hard-to-hear lines by fiddling with the bass and treble. There were usually some I couldn't get but by and large I knew most of the songs on my favourite albums within a few spins and could sing them (not aloud; I'd never do that to anyone!) word for word. Now of course you only have to look up lyrics sites, and I can get the words I never could before this. But it's still important to me, very much so.
Anyone else? Does it matter? Does it consume your every waking moment?

I used to be obsessed with knowing the lyrics to songs I liked. These days I'm more concerned with appreciating the vibe and feel of a song. Indeed when the words are not very clear I often mishear them, then later when I discover what the real lyrics are I'm often disappointed and prefer the lyrics I imagined they were.

Lyrics are very important to a song but I never really found myself obsessing to find them out, it would just come in due time as I would listen to the song more. It is different say if it's some new material from a group then the album will be on steady repeat and I'll learn the lyrics rather quickly. Also if I'm trying to cover a song I'll listen to them quite a bit to get lyrics down, especially if it's a song I'm not to familiar with.

I have more guitar oriented music in my vault than anything else, but if the song was meant to be heard with lyrics, then I can appreciate it although I don't "Obsess" over them.

Lyrics matter sometimes. Like, if I am listening to a song that is obviously geared towards having good lyrics and telling a story, they matter. So if they are trash in those types of songs, then I feel like the poor lyrics contribute to my disliking of it.
However, if it's clear that the lyrics are just something for the singer to say whilst the music takes the forefront, then I really don't care that much. Obviously not the case for every song but that's generally how I look at it.

There are so many ways to appreciate songs, and sometimes brilliant lyrics are what draws me in. This song, an unbelievably personal song about an epiphany, is the first song I think of

I never really pay too much attention to lyrics unless they end up saying something that stands out and piques my interest. I'm much more interested in the instrumentation and the arrangement.
I guess that's why it is pretty easy for me to end up liking a song that has bad lyrics because I can completely block them out while concentrating on the vibe that the song is giving off.
