The Watch Thread
So, recently I've been finding myself becoming pretty interested in getting an automatic, mechanical movement watch. I've been looking a lot, and I find the mechanics of these things just absolutely astonishing.
I mean, look at this: THOMAS PRESCHER, Triple Axis Tourbillon watch.mp4 - YouTube Beautiful. Absurdly expensive but beautiful. I've never seen anyone else here talk about this so I'm unsure, but is anyone else around who likes to look at nice watches?

I know people obsessed with those huge Invicta watches. That's really all of the input I have here but I'm not a watch fan.
I do have two my uncle gave me though, and they can be a nice accessory sometimes although I don't look at them much. It just so happened that I was at a play the other day and had to turn my phone off so it didn't interfere with the performance. And I forgot I had a watch on and didn't know what time it was. How convenient it was so remember and be able to get the time without needing digital technology! |

bro im just gonan say theres a real real real fine line to walk with watches
fine line between: high-class, established and confident businessman look and fedora wearing watch guy look i feel like its cool to wear a nice watch but unless you are in a social class or work environement where other people with very expensive watches will notice how expensive and nice your watch is then its kinda a waste of money. cause people with expensive watches come off as pretentious. like if you need to tell someone unprovoked the expense of your watch then you shouldnt get one. 3 types of ppl have nice watches 1. ppl who can easily afford them and the price is of very small concern 2. ppl who are around other ppl with nice watches and not having one would slide you a half notch down on the social ladder 3. pretentious doucherbags |

I've always wanted a gold pocket watch.
I haven't had a watch in years though like many others.

I think having a pocket watch would be so awesome.
I don't know if I would ever use it but I'd like it anyway. |

It would mostly be for formal engagements but I'd love to have one.

For reference, this is the watch I'm looking at getting. Its not a ridiculously expensive one, for what it is - in the region of £150.

That's a very nice looking watch. As much as I love my Citizen watch, I just really don't like the big bulky metal watches. I think this is going to be my next one the next time I have some money to spend.

I got a Seiko Solar Railroad Approved watch a few months again. It is the ****. I can charge it in one day by walking around outside and the battery will last for a year. being Railroad approved means every month I check it it, its only ever off by MAYBE a second or two. Only about 100 bucks.

I've never really understood the watch thing. Buy a 20 grand car, it drives better than a 5 grand car. Buy a 20 grand hi-fi, it sounds better than a 5 grand hi-fi. And it's the same with many things, the more expensive the better it is. But watches... a $10 watch tells the time almost as well as a $1000 watch, okay it might be a few seconds out each year, but that's it.
I guess it's a bling thing. |
