Anyone know of any books - novels or real life experiences - revolving around busking, street musicians, traveling bards,etc.?

Robert Johnson would be my personal suggestion.

He traveled the states playing his music back in the 30s never knowing what an impact his music would make in the annals of rock & roll music and the industry... decades later after his untimely death.
