The view from outside your window
Here's an idea. Post pictures of the view from outside your window. Is it nice, boring, interesting, depressing, uplifting? Do you love it, hate it, not care? What can you see from your window?
This is what I see from the window of the room where I am most often, my bedroom. Pic 1 shows the neighbour's garden with the wall that leads out to her huge front garden, the wall on the other side was only built last year as part of the reconstuction of our house following the building of the downstairs extension for my sister. That tree taking up most of the background has been there for years and years. A family of magpies live there, but often some pigeons or crows will also come calling. It sways beautifully in the wind, though if the wind is VERY high it can be quite alarming, however it's never come close to falling. When I need to relax, I often just sit and look at that tree, watch it swaying in the gentle breeze, watch the magpies come and go about their daily lives. It's very relaxing, especially in the morning. On the other side, in the other picture, you can see the roof of the extension in the foreground, then the other tree that my other neighbour has in their garden. Below that is the shed where their dogs are currently waiting for the arrival of a litter of puppies. It gets noisy there sometimes. Anyone wondering what the stains on the windows are, well, bird crap mostly (dirty beggars) but also that angular one is where I had the Irish flag up for the World Cup in 2012, stuck there with sellotape. Picture 3 shows the view from downstairs, from the sitting room. To the right you can see the extension where my sis now lives, while on the left is the birdhouse she pestered me to get. She was always worried about the birds having enough to eat, and when it was raining she'd insist I fed the birds, even though I knew it would end up with me cleaning up a soggy, icky mess when the rain destroyed the birdseed. So last Christmas I bought this and eventually put it together (with some difficulty as I am nobody's DIY person) and proudly put it out in the garden (you can see I made a bit of a hash of it as it lists to one side), and lo and behold! The birds ignored it completely! For two months I filled it with birdseed, and every day removed it uneaten, until finally I just gave up. The stone shelf at the bottom of the garden (you can see it to the right of the green shed door) was where I ended up putting their food, but as it was exposed I hit on the idea of using a plank of wood, angled to protect the food and act as a sort of shelter/roof. So this is now where they eat. We used to have a full garden but with the building of the extension most of that is gone now, and the only grass we have is the small patch you see to the left of the picture. At least it's not hard to cut! Also, the wall used to be a rickety wooden fence, so we're happy we have something decent up now. So, that's the view from my window. Want to share yours?

http://oi39.tinypic.com/j5gsut.jpg Since you mentioned birds, if you look to the very left of this pic, on the grass, I have a bird bath. I enjoy watching some of the birds visit. There's a fat pigeon who splashes around and scares the doves and tits away, fat twat. http://oi41.tinypic.com/2i7twfm.jpg How do you embed pics smaller? Does my tits in. |

Oh yeah: I had a birdbath too. Feckers knocked it down and crapped in it. I hate birds. I should also mention that that ledge whereof I spoke is also used as her hiding place for Molly, one of our cats when she gets let out in the morning, a spot from where she hopes to ambush the birds who come to feed. Sometimes she's so stealthy you could look down there and not see her. If I get a chance I'll snap a pic of her in position tomorrow and upload it.
