Not a very inspiring slogan up against consoles.

Linux gaming - Slowly becoming less of a problem.

And of course Nintendo encourage open-source development with the Wii. Oh no wait they don't.

Nor the fact that you have to consume alcohol in order to be able to play some of the games....?

Well if you're using a Linux distribution then you're probably not going to be using it for gaming, and you'd be an idiot to use it as your primary OS for that purpose. I think GB posted that chart of the evolution of the Linux kernel and all the little distributions as an example against the kind of dumb statement that started this thread.

I think he was making a joke about Wine. Using Wine to play games originally made for Windows OS.

It was a good point apart from the fact that most decent games don't attempt to stray from the Windows platform. One of the frustrating things about Macs too.

Looking at the list of Linux games on Steam now there's actually quite a respectable number of fairly big PC titles available. TF2, Killing Floor, Crusader Kings 2, FTL, Surgeon Simulator... There's no big name publisher support apart from traditionally PC-loving companies like Valve and Paradox but it's a decent enough variety. I'd try it out to see what the ports are actually like but I'm such a noob at Ubuntu that I'd probably never be able to figure out how to get Steam working on it, let alone installing and playing anything.

If you've ever used iTunes you can use the Ubuntu Software Center, although it's much more fun to get programs through the terminal.

Mint, actually. Ubuntu is bigger technically, but Mint is now seen as "Ubuntu, without the bloat", whereas Ubuntu is "Linux for people with absolutely minimal demands and a need to be handholded"

As for linux gaming - not my point.

As for consoles vs PC being an entirely gaming based argument - Have you guys not noticed that all the new console announcements were all-but-devoid of actual games, and super heavy on TV/Netflix etc?
