Default Eugenics and the 21st Century

After having seen Plankton's post about the morons around them in the Bitch Box, I was reminded of a concept dear to my heart: selective breeding based on physical and mental traits, otherwise known as eugenics.

Imagine a world where people with undesirable traits were not allowed to procreate. (Especially here in the 21st century, where stupidity seems to be everywhere.) Personally, I have realized that my own genetic makeup is not suitable for breeding (furthermore the thought of children makes me want to vomit - I would rather be cut from end to end and be thrown into a pool of rubbing alcohol than put up with pregnancy, labor, childbirth, and parenting) so I've made the conscious decision to never procreate.

Imagine what would happen if we could eradicate blindness, for instance. Or severe developmental disorders. All humans with these genetic traits would be barred from procreation, and within a generation or two, certain genetic mutations would be extinct.

To some people this sounds ludicrous, insensitive, discriminating, and even heartless. To others that are aware of human suffering due to their parents' lack of rational thought, this might seem like a solution.

If you were in charge of deciding who could and could not breed, what regulations would you consider to be most important? (e.g.; people born from a long line of drug addicts, people who can't pass a basic spelling test, etc.) How would you shape humanity to be absolutely ideal?

Also, there's a poll: Do you believe that some people are absolutely unfit for breeding?

I think that there are many traits that are genetically determined and in certain combinations can result in undesirables but this is not a compelling argument in violating a basic human right by removing the freedom of choice. Human beings are not just their gene pool, with no consideration for the importance of nurture as well as nature and it is leaving much to chance to put a stop in the natural order of things on what is not a provable issue.

Also **** that it's my uterus and I do what I want

That's true to an extent; there are some people who might not have the best genetic code, but they love their children more than anything in this entire world. There are some people who are great parents, of course, but let us not forget that there are some people that seem like they've just bred to be breeding.

Also, at least you're smart, so you'd have a reason for having a child if you wanted to. You wouldn't be polluting the gene pool with some dumbass kid that will never pick up a book, question authority, or think for themselves.

But who can say what the future brings? I'm sick in the head so much that I was told that I shouldn't be able to breed. Because of a disease I did not choose. It's not feasible to build a perfect world with all desireable traits without it self imploding. Gattaca?

This is how I did it, Anton! I never saved anything for the swim back!

That movie was so ****ing good oh my god. I don't know why this is even an argument when movies like Gattaca and books like Brave New World have existed. What do they think they are, just useless entertaining stories?

Someone literally said that to you? Jesus. With me it was something I discovered and realized myself - I could never burden another human life with the misery that my brain is infected with. My apologies, people are so insensitive sometimes.

But the thought of building a perfect world begs another question: what would "perfect" look like?

Perfect is a bull**** term, my opinion on the word is that firstly language is ever evolving and becoming more fluid to suit the needs of humanity's evolution, so it is a term that one must take it in themselves to define. It should not be a measurement on what makes a human being worth the right to life. Normal too. They need to be changed.

Gattaca rules.

I feel that no matter what opinion people have, there will be always people breeding even if you don't approve of their life and behaviours.
