Yeah I understand that. Obviously from a historical point of view it would have been better had I lived in Belfast (though I'm glad I didn't!) but even so, as I said we were only a short distance from the whole thing, and it did play out almost every day on the news. I take your point but I don't accept that it "doesn't count": it certainly counted for a huge part of my life, even if only experienced second-hand.

As a matter of interest, did you have any personal investment in any of the bombings, as in, did you know anyone who got hurt/seen any/visited sites etc?

I was actually referring to living in the UK under Thatcher first hand. But since you're asking about the bombings, it was always a source of worry every year especially around the Christmas period, as this was when most bombings took place and they were usually in the main cities. It was usually known as the IRA's Christmas Campaign. I remember seeing the aftermath of a pub bombing in the Charing Cross road area back in the 80s. These bombings were a constant event every year but as you know they just gradually died out.

As you would expect the UK press were always extremely anti-IRA and for years they failed to see that the UVF were just as bad.

Well she played musical chairs with the trade unions here and soon had them singing her tune.

Yeah I get that, but you misunderstood. Po asked me if I l lived through the Troubles, which I did. In a way, it was kind of unconnected to Thatcher, as he didnt ask was I alive during the Troubles and what was it like under Thatcher, which of course I have no first-hand knowledge of. That was the point I was making. But I see where you got confused.

And Goofle, we DO put this much effort into talking about music. Have you not seen mine and US (and Big Ears' on occasion) exchanges in my journal?
