I find it a bit odd that you are shocked by this sort of mentality on the internet of all places where people will sit behind their desks and say the most outrageous things they can think of but would never say in a real social setting

Whatever I say online, I say in my personal life. I may have my off the wall moments, but I don't restrict them to "Just the internet". I've more or less shocked a few people I know with some really dark shit.

Yeah but Twitter is different. If you said that nonsense on this site, I'd be like "yeah someones got Internet balls" because we don't know you and its not really traceable for such innocuous curiosity.

Twitter, however, is permanent. I've changed my name on Twitter before because my feed is only political and when I look for jobs I don't want them to see that (nothings bad, but no one celebrates political opinion at a corporate job interview).

If you search for a persons name, well after they've changed it, the page still comes up. Its...ugly.

Funny you mention that, my girl recently got denied a job because they looked her up and the first thing they saw was her twitter account. She had pictures of us rolling blunts and at the bar and they didn't think it was "appropriate". I couldn't help but laugh.

While I think that is stupid they checked it, it is common sense to not have pictures of yourself doing illegal things on the interwebs.

You're giving the large majority of twitter users, and internet users in general, a whole lot of credit here. It's quite possible that the lot of them are practically ignorant to the consequence of it all.
Although, I understand if you were just pointing out the facts.

Yeah I'm sure they don't know. I'm just stating what is.

I would agree, then.
I'm pretty sure FarmVille owes its existence to the fact that many people are not afraid to click on things and install them over the internet if it meets the simple criteria of appealing to their senses.

I could take control of the computers of a majority of the people I talk to online simply by sending them a script that enables a particular process, just so long as they trust me enough to actually double click something.

Facebook is no different.

I will say that I've gone through such difficult quests with facebook privacy so as to make myself pretty much un-findable. People at work are always like, "You don't even have Facebook?!" and I'm all, I do, but you're not going to find me unless you have the url. Then, if they're cool, I give them the url. No one above my level of employment, i.e. coaches or managers, shall ever receive my url. They shall receive me saying, "Oh, I never even get on Facebook, so I might as well not have a facebook."
