Preserves are any fruits mixed with sugar to make a spread.
Conserves are the same but have chunks of fruit in them.

Only in the US. You go into a store here and ask for jelly they'll give you a small rectangular packet of gelatin that you drop into boiling water, leave in the fridge for a few hours and then enjoy with ice cream or whatever.

Here on this side of the world jam is what you spread on your bread, toast, waffles, whatever. So what do you call what we call jelly then? The dessert?

Trollheart 03-05-2013 06:56 PM

Anyway, yeah but what the bleep is that hellhound thing then???

My mother was a chef, she calls seedless jam jelly, I went to catering college they called seedless jam jelly there too. I worked in a supermarket they were called jams & jellys there too.

It is possible for more than one thing to have the same name. I'm assuming you've never filled up a chip pan with Castrol GTX because you were confused by the word oil being used for several things.

My mother & the supermarket and the tutor at the collage were English btw.

The mystery is solved! They never DID discover why my house burned down that time! Thanks, Urban! (Makes note: Castrol GTX NOT for cooking chips. Makes a second note: SPRY Crisp'n'Dry NOT for engine of car...)

The Batlord 03-06-2013 10:31 AM

I love both, but creamy is better for sandwiches, and since I eat PBJs a lot then I'll go with creamy. But if I'm eating it straight out of the jar, then crunchy all the way.

I think this one falls firmly into the "you tell me and we'll both know" column

*edited to add: I did a google images search for bad art

Heh. I'm not actually sure I'd even call it bad, though some sort of context would help me.

He's not in on the photo. It's just a random, strange photo from the internet. That's the context. What he's using it for, though, that's something he can answer.

Anyway, I don't like peanut butter. I thought I would come in here to declare that there are those of us in the world that don't eat it. I need to be a voice to my minority group. Please don't chastise me.

I understand. The comment you were replying to was just me musing about the nature of "bad art".

Yes, but the image loads for me. Hmmm

That's not the pic I got. Mine was a dead Uncle Sam with a bullet hole in his chest with doctors trying to resuscitate him with defibrillator paddles.

Paul Smeenus 11-20-2013 11:29 AM

So the Safeway across the street was having a blowout sale on PB, I could've bought 50 jars of crunchy (if I wanted to ick myself out I guess), but after an EXHAUSTIVE search I managed to get the last creamy. I win. :yeah:

Sansa Stark 11-20-2013 11:31 AM

I hate it too. It sounds so nasty. I'm glad the label on my PB says "smooth".

Exactly. I'd hope I'd find a less unpleasant end, like chugging drano while being set on fire

Vanilla ice cream is pretty good but not on oatmeal.

My fave is caramel.
