What's your real name?

Everyone, including me, uses handles and usernames here, and that's fine: anonymity is a good thing on the internet, as is an alias. But as we all get to know each other a bit better I think it might be a bit friendlier if we knew each others' names. Obviously I'm not talking about surnames, but I've seen people refer to each other by their first name, and I was unaware that was that person's name.

So if anyone wants to let us know what your real first name is, feel free. Mine's Deryck, as anyone checking my extended profile on my control panel will be able to see. Of course, some/many/all may want to remain anonymous and that's fine, but for anyone who'd like to say what their name is I think it might be nice not to have to refer to someone by their username all the time.

Maybe it's a bad idea, I don't know: just puttin' it out there, as they say...
:wavey:

Good thread mate, I mentioned the other day that my real name is Martin, I think I have grown used to Fluffy a bit though, sounds friendly when people post that haha

Exo 03-03-2013 12:17 PM

I'll give you my first and last name. Joe Smith. Seriously. Go ahead and try to find me.

Frownland 03-03-2013 12:21 PM

My name's Christophe. I've made mention of it before, but I think it was just in the shoutbox.

Trollheart 03-03-2013 12:39 PM

Thanks guys.
Fluff/Martin, no-one says you have to be called by your real name, not in the least. If you're happy with your username and want people to keep calling you by that name no-one's going to stop you. But it's in the case of some names, like say Big Ears, who said his name came from a rather cruel incident when he was at school, or Unknown Soldier, who apart from being too damn long to type so keeps getting called US, I talk to a lot and it would just seem friendlier to use his real name, if he is okay with that.

No pressure on anyone, no rules or even guidelines. I'll still call you Fluffy and Frownland the same as I have always, and Exo will always be Exo just as Urban could only ever be Urban.

It's just nice to know, I think.

Robert Edward Derbyshire

but i tend to go by Bob....but will answer to both Robert and Bob and often will introduce myself as both to different people....just depends on what mood i'm in

Trollheart 03-03-2013 12:58 PM

I often wondered if it was actually Bob, or if it was an acronym. My uncle was called Brendan O'Byrne, but everyone knew him as Bob. Everyone. Even his wife.
Odd, innit?

Burning Down 03-03-2013 01:33 PM

CanwllCorfe 03-03-2013 02:16 PM

Tim Beers. Yes, that's my real name. No, I don't wanna get beers with you. No, I don't own a bar. Yeah, I really don't drink. Yeah, it is ironic. I know, I know.

LoathsomePete 03-03-2013 02:37 PM

Take a wild fucking guess.

Isn't your last name almost the same as your first name?
If so, that is crazy.

It would be like if my full name was Jeremy Jeremyson.

Not really, but Tore Toresen would be completely legit as a name here.

You may be thinking of "torden" as I used to be toretorden here, but that was just a handle.

Oh. I thought Torden was your actual last name, because you had this thing where you were worried about privacy or something and had it changed to Tore.

Freebase Dali 03-03-2013 03:30 PM

Also, how do you pronounce Tore?
In my head, I just say it like I tore ass, or tore a piece of paper in half.

Is it that, or "tory / toray"?

Circe 03-03-2013 04:06 PM

My first name's Holly but everyone I'm friendly with calls me Holl, or Holls if they want to get my nark on. I don't really like my last name so I'm keeping it hush-hush.

Sansa Stark 03-03-2013 04:11 PM

Ron Weasley

Rjinn 03-03-2013 04:21 PM

My name is Rola Soliman. Rola is not a nickname it's actually my real name. My old mates used to call me rolls, or roller skates (lame). An old work manager of mine used to call me Rolex heh.

Paul Smeenus 03-03-2013 04:25 PM

Paul is my real first name. My last name isn't really Smeenus tho. That'd be one hell of a name to give your son if your last name happened to be Smeenus.

Agreed.
Therefore it is worth it.

Scarlett O'Hara 03-03-2013 04:54 PM

My name is Jessika. I'd give my lastname but you'd find my abstract from university Haha.

Zer0 03-03-2013 05:12 PM

First name is William. It's not a name I particularly like but it's almost a tradition in my family. My surname I shall never reveal, for fear of people stalking my LinkedIn profile or much worse :)

Is that actually Jessika with a K or are you just trying to be cool (which you should not need to do, as you are already polar bear cool...)?

...really? I've met plenty of girls named Holly. Perhaps it's not a common name where you are.

Freebase Dali 03-03-2013 06:14 PM

Yea, Holly is pretty common around my parts. (Not like THAT, perv.)

I think it's a pretty name.

Mine is Stephen. Shortened to STP for 80s video game high score tables not as an acronym for Stone Temple Pilots.

Yeah, pretty common in places I've been too. Plus there's Holly Hunter. I thought she was fairly well known.
