True, he never stated how he accesses the internet on the iPhone at all. But what I said is also true. The iPhone 3 is, today, a pitiful way to browse the web. It is an EOL product and the 4 isn't much better.

OK, lemme explain something to you.

I do have a Galaxy S3, which I used to have activated on Verizon when I had a employee plan at my 2 jobs before the job I took last year, jobs dating back to 1995. I got the Galaxy S3 in 2012.

Then I made a fateful decision to work for Sprint. I was offered free phone service as part on my employment, I still had the Galaxy S3 on Verizon's very discounted but not free employee rate plan, so I decided to get the iPhone 4s for my free service with Sprint. Turns out that I didn't care for the way Sprint operates, and consequently they didn't care for me either. They let me go in September, then shortly after that I found out that my rent was going up $100 this year. Sprint offered me a lifelong plan discount (not free but very good for postpaid), Verizon's employee plan was contingent on my ongoing representation of their brand, which was not yet at that time contested by Verizon but they could've closed my employee deal at any time. So, as a cost cutting measure I was forced to close my Verizon account & keep Sprint. Since then, I got hired into my current position representing Verizon again.

And before you predictably say "well Verizon is a million times the network that Sprint is..." all I would say is, duh. Of course it is.

The equalizing factor is (and the fact that this didn't even occur to you shows me that you absolutely DID NOT think this through before you posted) is that I'm using the iPhone on the SAME WIFI as the Galaxy S3. That takes the network COMPLETELY out of the equation. The Galaxy S3 is in nearly every way a better web browsing phone than iPhone. The iPhone doesn't reliably paste from the clipboard on Safari (which I never use) or Chrome (which I use on both phones and the computer I'm on now), it will randomly post photos upside down or sideways, or display them as such when it is in fact correct (the Galaxy S3 never does this), the lack of any off screen menu or back button makes navigation far clumsier, the screen itself is WAY WAY smaller, on and on. (BTW, even if both phones were on Verizon, the iPhone 4s is a 3G phone, which would browse the web typically at about .5 mbps compared to the 5-10 mbps that the Galaxy S3, a 4G phone, would typically get. 3G is a good deal faster on the GSM networks, AT&T or T-Mobile, than the CDMA networks Sprint or Verizon, but even then the typical data speeds would only be about 1-2 mbps)

Granted, iPhone does have it's sundry advantages but none that particularly matter as regards the way that *I* use the phone. Which leads me to:

The one thing I do LEAST on my phone is talk. That, by the way, would be a performance tie between the two phones (except to the degree that I would give the iPhone the slight edge in Bluetooth connectivity). But I really don't care. They would otherwise serve pretty much equally well for my absolute LEAST concern with the phone. For me, these things are pocket sized web browsing, fact finding, video viewing, navigation (iPhone is fine unless you don't download Google maps and try to use Apple's terrible nav system), internet radio streaming, Music Banter posting devices.

Messaging would slightly favor the Galaxy S3, mainly due to the clipboard pasting issues I mentioned above.

Really looking forward to replacing this POS iPhone, I remain...

Pfft that is hilarious that WPN views smartphones as a phone primarily. GTFO. Most people don't call each other nowadays. They text and the main reason they want a smartphone is for the apps browsing so they can check Facebook, listen to music and watch YouTube videos get real.

...Well, you explained yourself rather well.

All I wanted you to do was elaborate, and you've done that, so we're good.

I was just mad because over the last page of this thread I've seen a ton of people say they have a problem with apple and the iphone for no real reason at all, and then you just say the iphone is a POS without giving any reasons for that.

As far as what you said, you are absolutely right, the web browser is ****ty, and you do have the right to say that the iPhone is a POS based solely on the browser if that is all you wanted from the phone.

I, on the other hand use the iPhone for a ton of other things:

I text, I use a host of apps with it, I plan my schedule and appointments, I use it as an alarm clock, I take notes with it, I check my email with it, I call people, I use maps for directions, I listen to music with it (I frequently also use bluetooth to play music through my wireless speakers), and I browse the web with it.

I suppose you are correct in that this is all just opinions, but from my experience with the iPhone, the ****ty web browser is far and away eclipsed by the host of the other reasons I use my iPhone everyday for.

From my perspective, I can deal with the lackluster web browser because I'm in college and I always have access to my computer where browsing the web is considerably easier.

Also, DJ I didn't get the iPhone to do any of what you listed. I got it because it saved my parents money to switch to an iPhone family plan from AT&T.

I didn't even want the iPhone 4 when I first got it six years ago and I much preferred having my slide Motorola phone that used Verizon and had reliable service pretty much everywhere.

Now that I've had it for a while, I would be literally be lost without my iPhone.

The point that I was trying to make is that that is just one feature of the iPhone, and as I just said, I use it for a host of other things that far outweigh the uselessness of the web browser. Not to mention the fact that it saves my parents money because of our plan, so I literally can't complain.

The point of me listing off those random things is that when people get a smart phone the primary purpose isn't to use it for calls but to do all the other random things that the phone can do. If they wanted a phone just for calls they would get a flip phone. Just like you say yourself, you use it for a host of other things.

DJ is right. Nobody gets a phone for calls and texts any more, it is the last thing you consider. I've never considered it, even back in the bluetooth Walkman phone days.

The droid has been everything I wanted in a phone also. The new Samsung is a hell of a good phone also. My contract is up so i'm thinking of re-upping and going with the new Samsung, what the hell.
