Cool Things you didn't know

All crisp packet 'best before dates' are on a Saturday.

Birmingham is the biggest city in the UK.

New York is not the capital of New York state.

Nigella Lawson is not actually a chef or qualified in cooking in any way, she is a journalist.

You mean in terms of land area?

Carlisle is the biggest by land area I believe, Birmingham is the biggest by population. I know it's widely believed that London is but London isn't actually a city. It contains two cities (City of London and Westminster) but is not itself a city.

That sounds sort of like it depends a lot on how you define the terms. I mean the whole huge 8 million person region of London is all governed by one mayor, no?

Boris Johnson yeah.

But these are the official cities of England - City status in the United Kingdom - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Quote:
In informal usage, city can be used for large towns or conurbations that are not formally cities. The best-known example of this is London, which contains two cities (the City of London and the City of Westminster) but is not itself a city.
Quote:
London's ancient core, the City of London, largely retains its square-mile mediaeval boundaries. Since at least the 19th century, the name London has also referred to the metropolis developed around this core. The bulk of this conurbation forms the London region and the Greater London administrative area, governed by the elected Mayor of London and the London Assembly.
But then there are Greater Birmingham and Greater Manchester areas which are not considered cities.

Meh. Like I said, it seems like more of a semantic thing. Sort of like how four of the "50 states" over here aren't technically states, but are actually commonwealths.

I accept that

If you tilt your bank card under a light in the correct way, you can make out the four digits that make up your pin number.

Using contact solution intended for hard contacts on your soft shell contacts is a VERY bad idea. I was quite literally writhing in pain on the bathroom floor an hour ago because my eye felt like it was on fire.

Learn from my failure.

The hottest part of a chili is not the seeds, it is in fact the white lining which holds the seeds.
