There's little room for error in this unforgiving world of flatulence, and the ones who prosper the most are the gassiest bastards of men.
Finally it all makes sense

I don't know if I buy that. I don't have any links to studies, but I remember reading at least one that showed people gravitating to specific...uh...gender roles(?) at very early ages (little boys picking up GI Joes and little girls picking up Barbie dolls kinda stuff) that seemed to at least make it possible that it isn't just a social construct. Social pressures certainly matter, but I don't know that you can definitively say that it doesn't have a genetic component.

National Geographic Explorer Testosterone Factor - YouTube

Watch a few minutes of that starting at 12 minutes. The whole video is quite interesting as well as it explores how testosterone affects the body of males and also females, but this particular segment about the babies is more on topic right now.

Edit: I've fixed the URL so that when you click on it, it starts right at 12 minutes.
