I remember arguing with Duce over a comment he posted thats actually one of my sig's saying "Hendrix didn't even play the blues that well" lol. No matter how much I tried to convince him by presenting my side of the case he never folded. Must have been the lawyer in him, but I actually did like him, and we traded puns at each other from time to time ever since then. I think he joined around the same time I did.

I can't remember if I ever had a conversation with him on this board. I'm sure I have. I don't remember things well. I'm usually one for humor but I don't think it's the time or place even though it would be in good spirits. It's best just to be respectful.
Rest in peace you magnificently eccentric bastard. Seriously. |

Terrible news.
I knew him from the other forum as well. His dry sense of humor was like a breath of fresh air at times, and although he took quite a few shots he would always come away smiling. I know he's smiling right now. R.I.P. Patrick.

Sad as it is, thanks for bringing us this news, stp.
Il Duce was such a genial guy; ready to chat to anybody -including me when I was a newbie, hanging on every response. But Il Duce understood how to put the banter into MB and that`s why he was respected in so many of the different music forums. His famously short, good-natured posts were sufficient to keep various conversations going, and because he posted so often, I think we all learned a lot about him. For someone who didn`t come from an English-speaking culture, he had an extraordinarily broad knowledge of western music, but I admired him more for his honesty and humour - even when he was telling us about his internet addiction or other problems. These included Attention Deficiency Syndrome, I believe, which may explain all those three-line posts. And of course, there was this topic too :- Quote:

What can I say I came in from work a few hours ago and saw this thread......I didn't know what to think so I didn't type anything earlier.
I've now been for my hour run and exercise regime which always helps me to think about things in a different light but I'm still quite shocked. I might have known Howard (Patrick) better than a lot of you did on here and spoke to him by PM on several ocassions. Sure he was wacky, sure he was a geek and sure he was a fantasist but who cares, because as as far as I was concerned he was a great easygoing guy who had an amazing grasp and understanding of British humour for an Asian. He'd spent a fair amount of time in the UK and he'd obviously spent that time well. A lot of the younger members on the forum, I don't think really got to grips with his inane humour. I'm of the same age group as Patrick and could easily get onto his wavelength. I for one will miss him a lot on this forum RIP Howard (Il Duce) I think the Batlord was spot on with the "Heaven Tonight" song and I know Howard really dug that Cheap Trick album. I know if I play that song I'll have a tear in my eye.

All I can say is I am sorry and gutted. Every death is a tragedy and I genuinely liked him even though I didn't know what to make of most of his posts. Genuinely, rest in peace mate.

I know that Duce really liked R.E.M., and had expressed to me via PM (wish I still had it ) that one of his most favourite tracks was "Why Not Smile" from Up. It's a beautiful song.
So, my friend, this is for you: R.I.P. |

I've been very fortunate in my life to not have suffered many losses, so far. All of my elders are still going strong. My grandfather died before I was born, so I never even knew him. I recently lost a friend, but death is still a pretty new and strange thing to me. It's just hard to imagine that he won't be here to come in and insert some humor to lighten up this thread. So strange. Who will I talk about bob Dylan with? I guess it's just me and you, chives. |

I didn't know him all that well, and I don't want to come across as spamming my stuff, but since he was into REM, and I've got a version I've done, I'll dedicate this to him. Seems to fit better here than in the Forum Member SC.
For Patrick: Everybody Hurts by Planktons on SoundCloud - Create, record and share your sounds for free Hope this doesn't come across in poor taste.
