Exo Explores Abandoned Houses Thread
Some of you might know already but for those who don't, I inspect properties for a living. Most of these properties are occupied and I just need to document them but around 10% of them are vacant and I have to do interior inspections. I started recording my explorations and they've been popular in the "Your Day" thread so I decided to make a unique thread for all of them. I'll try to document each house I visit and most of them will be as I arrive so you get to see what I get to see for the first time.
Enjoy... These were the first two I uploaded. I have two more from one of the most disgusting houses I've come across. It should be in a following post soon. |

yeah, it's when they turn and stare at you that it gets scary!
I'd employ a guy to play a sharp violin as you go down the stairs, Exo! :D |
So this house was one of the most disgusting houses I've been in. It also was in one of the more "urban" areas that I cover. Anybody familiar with northern New Jersey knows how ****ty Passaic is. The front door was locked but the doorknob had been broken off which means that somebody either tried to get in or that it was just always like that and the team that secures the house decided just to keep it locked and find another access. I ended up finding a side door that had been boarded and locked with a pad lock and I was able to get it open with my keys. I had my pepper spray with me and was cautious entering the house as you'll see. I haven't found anybody in a house but there is always the first time.
The first video is my exploration of the house with a little surprise at the end. Like the others, it was my first time in the house. The second video was taken after I came back down and found the basement. LANGUAGE WARNING: I swear a lot. |
What do you look for when you inspect a house?
|
"I'm going to get raped in here"
Well if you were in the ground floor suite I'd agree with you, but at least the second floor apartments look alright. Also those mannequin heads... the second one from the left looks a lot like Urban Hatemonger. |
These are hilarious. That house with the door to the roof was fucked up! I actually used to do something similar. I'd go out to abandoned properties and take pictures. Saw some weird stuff in the 4 days I worked that job.

I know it's insane, but I seriously am expecting a zombie to jump out at you at any second during those videos. Or at least a crazy person.
|
Pretty cool from where I'm sitting, but I wouldn't want that job. Rats, stray dogs/cats, squatters, crack/meth heads... ZOMBIES... No sir. Too many variables for getting ****ed up by something.

I honestly think this would be a pretty sweet job. I'd love to look around in abandoned houses. That would be legit!

This house was just destroyed. I found a gnarly spider in the basement. The whole house creaked when I was walking and gave that kind of eerie feeling that somebody was in the house. Not one of my favorites.
Same thing with this one. Every step I took cause a creak on the other side of the room. The house was just getting drenched with rain all day. I don't know if that contributed to it but it was noisy. |
So this was my interesting venture into Newark today. The video doesn't do justice on how bad of an area I was in. I was nervous. The house was destroyed and huge. The basement was very brooding. I give a interesting little close up of my face...sorry...in the beginning. Enjoy my face. |
I was a little surprised that you didn't look like David Lynch.
|
Don't tell anybody.

Your film projectionist career really helps make these handheld videos seem like they're from a found-footage horror movie. I keep on expecting to see the silhouette of a ghost or something when you turn the camera back towards a door frame.

THAT was funny. |
I made a new video of me working for you guys today. Enjoy my face again. |
I somehow never saw this thread. Seems like a cool job other than the lack of proper lighting.
|
The video started out great, but there just weren't enough shots looking up Exo's nose.
|
I half expected a crazed hobo covered in blood. Maybe I've watched too many low budget horror movies.
Have you run into a case of someone having stripped the copper yet? |

Wait so your job involves you straight up walking into occupied flophouses? Do you carry a gun? I didn't know that was a job. I hope you get paid a lot.
|
You probably don't do this for work anymore, so could you go out into the boonies and tape same abandoned house inspections for us?
|
He needs to come up by me. There are plenty of abandoned properties in the Hudson Valley.
|
Ooh I didn't know about this thread. Inspect some abandoned amusement parks please
