Exo Explores Abandoned Houses Thread

Some of you might know already but for those who don't, I inspect properties for a living. Most of these properties are occupied and I just need to document them but around 10% of them are vacant and I have to do interior inspections. I started recording my explorations and they've been popular in the "Your Day" thread so I decided to make a unique thread for all of them. I'll try to document each house I visit and most of them will be as I arrive so you get to see what I get to see for the first time.

Enjoy...

These were the first two I uploaded. I have two more from one of the most disgusting houses I've come across. It should be in a following post soon.

Mannequin heads are kinda creepy. Especially ones that look like Glen Danzig.

Trollheart 10-16-2012 05:07 PM

yeah, it's when they turn and stare at you that it gets scary!
I'd employ a guy to play a sharp violin as you go down the stairs, Exo! :D

Exo 10-17-2012 12:21 AM

So this house was one of the most disgusting houses I've been in. It also was in one of the more "urban" areas that I cover. Anybody familiar with northern New Jersey knows how ****ty Passaic is. The front door was locked but the doorknob had been broken off which means that somebody either tried to get in or that it was just always like that and the team that secures the house decided just to keep it locked and find another access. I ended up finding a side door that had been boarded and locked with a pad lock and I was able to get it open with my keys. I had my pepper spray with me and was cautious entering the house as you'll see. I haven't found anybody in a house but there is always the first time.

The first video is my exploration of the house with a little surprise at the end. Like the others, it was my first time in the house. The second video was taken after I came back down and found the basement.

LANGUAGE WARNING: I swear a lot.

Frownland 10-17-2012 08:38 AM

What do you look for when you inspect a house?

LoathsomePete 10-17-2012 08:51 AM

"I'm going to get raped in here"

Well if you were in the ground floor suite I'd agree with you, but at least the second floor apartments look alright.

Also those mannequin heads... the second one from the left looks a lot like Urban Hatemonger.

someonecompletelyrandom 10-17-2012 08:52 AM

These are hilarious. That house with the door to the roof was fucked up! I actually used to do something similar. I'd go out to abandoned properties and take pictures. Saw some weird stuff in the 4 days I worked that job.

When I heard him say "****!" or whatever he said I was hoping that he had discovered a door to nowhere. Except for all the trash that was actually a pretty bitchin' house. A kitchen on the second floor? Fuck yes! I'd use the first floor for parties and just live on the second floor.

I have to photograph everything. Every room. Every appliance. Every damage. Every everything. This is so the mortgage company who owns the property can see the condition of the house and decide what to do with it.

It was a four apartment house. I guess the people upstairs were a lot nicer when they left. The people downstairs just destroyed the place.

Blarobbarg 10-17-2012 11:36 AM

I know it's insane, but I seriously am expecting a zombie to jump out at you at any second during those videos. Or at least a crazy person.

Plankton 10-17-2012 11:43 AM

Pretty cool from where I'm sitting, but I wouldn't want that job. Rats, stray dogs/cats, squatters, crack/meth heads... ZOMBIES... No sir. Too many variables for getting ****ed up by something.

Well at least it's putting hair on my chest.

YorkeDaddy 10-17-2012 03:39 PM

I honestly think this would be a pretty sweet job. I'd love to look around in abandoned houses. That would be legit!

Yeah, until you have to take pictures of somebody's shit in the toilet.

Then you just text it to a friend and await their response.

That's probably fungus from that nasty house. You should go see a doctor.

The hair is next to the fungus. I've had the fungus...well...since...since high school...shut up...I don't want to talk about it.

Exo 10-19-2012 01:55 PM

This house was just destroyed. I found a gnarly spider in the basement. The whole house creaked when I was walking and gave that kind of eerie feeling that somebody was in the house. Not one of my favorites.

Same thing with this one. Every step I took cause a creak on the other side of the room. The house was just getting drenched with rain all day. I don't know if that contributed to it but it was noisy.

Exo 10-23-2012 04:50 PM

So this was my interesting venture into Newark today. The video doesn't do justice on how bad of an area I was in. I was nervous. The house was destroyed and huge. The basement was very brooding. I give a interesting little close up of my face...sorry...in the beginning. Enjoy my face.

Frownland 10-23-2012 05:08 PM

I was a little surprised that you didn't look like David Lynch.

Exo 10-23-2012 05:42 PM

Don't tell anybody.

I know. You just look like a dude. Not a bad dude, but you didn't even have the crazy hair. :(

LoathsomePete 10-24-2012 09:59 AM

Your film projectionist career really helps make these handheld videos seem like they're from a found-footage horror movie. I keep on expecting to see the silhouette of a ghost or something when you turn the camera back towards a door frame.

THAT was funny.

I made a new video of me working for you guys today. Enjoy my face again.

DwnWthVwls 11-16-2015 08:17 PM

I somehow never saw this thread. Seems like a cool job other than the lack of proper lighting.

The Batlord 11-16-2015 08:38 PM

The video started out great, but there just weren't enough shots looking up Exo's nose.

Nameless 11-17-2015 06:03 AM

I half expected a crazed hobo covered in blood. Maybe I've watched too many low budget horror movies.

Have you run into a case of someone having stripped the copper yet?

All the time. I have walked in on drug addicts sleeping on mattresses as well. My job isn't for the easily scared.

Nameless 11-17-2015 01:26 PM

Wait so your job involves you straight up walking into occupied flophouses? Do you carry a gun? I didn't know that was a job. I hope you get paid a lot.

Frownland 07-28-2017 07:46 PM

You probably don't do this for work anymore, so could you go out into the boonies and tape same abandoned house inspections for us?

djchameleon 07-29-2017 12:52 AM

He needs to come up by me. There are plenty of abandoned properties in the Hudson Valley.

Chiomara 07-29-2017 10:06 AM

Ooh I didn't know about this thread. Inspect some abandoned amusement parks please
