Another update another year later:

second year of college was way worse than the first year

i'm still with the same girl, going on 4 years next month

we lived together in a studio apartment last year and it was awful. this year our apartment has several rooms and life is astronomically better

all the lame required classes are done for me and basically everything from here on out is advanced Psychology classes which are extremely cool. I absolutely hated taking Spanish/Biology/Math/all that stuff, all I ever want to learn is computers, psychology, and interesting things I decide to learn from electives. Luckily that's what I can do from now until I'm done!

I'll be honest, college was a rough time for me. Some really great moments, some absurdly horrible moments. For me, grad school was way better...when I went to parties, everyone was on the same page and even people in other departments had something interesting to say. We all loved something so much that we wanted to be experts in it, so we had that in common. Then I moved to Arkansas. Everyone is dumb here, this place is not for me.

It occurred to me I should probably read what was going on this thread before commenting further, but it's good to hear you are enjoying your new digs. Living arrangements are a HUUUGE factor in quality of life.

Social Informatics, Cognitive Psychology, Clinical Science, and Psychology-specific Statistics this semester. Not too hard of a schedule but not very easy either!

Why did you move?

I totally understand about the living arrangements thing. I've lived in a room in a boarding house for 2.5 years and there is a couple of idiots there for the whole time that would accuse me of things that make no sense to logical and intelligent people. Doing things like super gluing my door lock, pouring water under my door, steal my mail (currently), trying to trick me to go up to the modem when they turn it off purposely. I only have stayed there because the room is cheap and all bills are covered under the rent so it never changes. I've had good and bad neighbours and generally get along with most people (out of 20) and I couldn't afford to get a flat until I'm working permanently. I'm slowly getting through my diploma and hope to be finished in 6 months. The only thing I'm focusing on is my happiness and I'm out enjoying my life while the paranoid people in my house have miserable lives and spend most of their time complaining and making up issues when there are none. I'm doing well considerng my health issues and anxiety by fitting in paid projects and studying fulltime. I see a psychaitrist each week and when I'm working at an awesome, well paid position I'll never look back. The people that hate me will always be stuck in their ways and will stay at the boarding house till they die. The two guys I'm talking about are over 40.

I moved for work. Well, to be more accurate I moved for my girlfriend and then found a job. I was born in the south, so I knew what to expect...but my girlfriend had never been here and wanted to see for herself. Now she understands haha. And it's really not too bad...I'm moving to Washington DC in a couple weeks. I just took the opportunity to take a dig at Arkansas. To anyone reading this: just avoid this state altogether.

Your roomies sound kind of nuts. I had a prank war with a guy who lived on the same floor as me in the dorms, but it really never went too far. The only thing that could have resulted in a horrible turn was he once overheard me saying that I could put Nair (the leg hair removal product) in his shampoo, but that's something I wouldn't actually do. He went and put Nair in my shampoo, but it actually solidified the whole thing so it didn't work.

The worst it ever got was my roomie the year after...my (now ex) gf started school at the same university and she was over all the time. The guy was a neat freak, conservative, and repressed individual. I am an open, not-as-neat, and liberal guy...so we butted heads a lot, especially about my gf being there all the time. Then he told me I had to choose between him and my gf. That was weird.

My daughter is in her 2nd year, and wants to change her major/campus again. We talked for a looong time yesterday about this, and although her tuition will be considerably less for her new vocation, she'll end up making more money when she gets that sheepskin. I kept emphasizing that she finish out this semester, so she doesn't fall into a rut where she gets used to not having school work to do. She agree's. Smart kid.

When you get out of college and have to find a job, that's when things get interesting. Enjoy college while you can.

I'm starting up on Wednesday as well, moving back up this Saturday. I won't have a meal plan this semester because I'll have an apartment style dorm with a kitchen and I'm a better chef than those fools at the cafeteria.

That's what grad school's for.
