Like a lot of people, I used to feel that way back when I had spent very little time in New Jersey. Now that I live near there, work there and have spent a lot of time there I've come to appreciate it. I think it's one of the most misunderstood states and has some very cool places in it.

The absolutely **** holes get thrown about poplar media all the time and people tend to think that the whole state is a **** hole. There are beautiful parts though and not too far from the **** holes as it turns out. It's weird. For example, I grew up on this lake...

That is only 20 miles from NYC and only 10 miles from Paterson. This is Paterson...

None. I couldn't even point to it on a map (unless there was a big arrow saying New Jersey of course).

Ugh, the few people I've spoken to from Jersey (or my friends who moved there), all speak in terms of where they live and it's relation to NYC. It's as though the entire state is one big suburb where people are envious of the city they live kind-of-close to. I find suburban culture to be utterly repulsive for a variety of reasons, so - yeah - I've quite the negative opinion of the state.

You people use the names of your cities and towns?
I thought you all just identify the numbers of your I-95 exits.

I wouldn't say "envious." Where I live, most people hope to move out out of the city, some of them move to NJ just to commute back to the city (they moved from) to work. I heard the taxes are the highest in the country (or maybe second to CA) every fifty feet is a township, and each township needs revenue for police, post office, trash etc etc , so they hefty tax to support that. You would think with the AC casinos pulling in all that money the state would taxes to be tax free like Delaware.

You don't have to watch Jersey Shore, you can shut it off.
