princess diana appreciation thread

Princess Diana found in her own suffering the strength to give more of herself and found happiness in people's happiness.
She had been not only the mother of two boys, but also the mother of many around the world.
Though she had failed to become the future Queen of England, she became the People's Princess in the heart of many in the world.
She stepped outside the apparent separatedness that confered her statute of Princess to relate deeply and truly with people she met and she remembered people around her that any human being, whatever is his/her condition, is worthy of care, consideration and compassion

Not a big fan of the royal family and what it stands for, but she was a lovely woman and a true example at the time. Very sad what happened.

Need a Futurama Fry meme that says:

Can't tell if serious

Or really really stoned

When she died I was young, and narcissistic as I was I thought it was pretty funny that she passed away. Now, I kind of think it was a conspiracy to get rid of her...

But what makes you bring this up now? Kind of out of the blue isn't it?

Sparky 05-20-2012 05:53 PM

It was actually a thread i had been meaning to make for some time but was a hesitant because i thought, especially with me being the poster, it would come off as a joke.

It's definitively a conspiracy, theres overwhelming evidence for it,
she had written it in a letter:
Quote:

This particular phase in my life is the most dangerous - my husband is planning 'an accident' in my car, brake failure and serious head injury in order to make the path clear for him to marry Tiggy [Legge-Bourke]. Camilla [Parker-Bowles] is nothing but a decoy, so we are all being used by the man in every sense of the word.

Is it a conspiracy?

Pretty much sums it up for me.

I don't like the way British people are their " subjects " and I find it scary seeing all these pictures and idols of them being sold on the streets in Britain( especially during Will and that other one's wedding ), almost like they are meant to be worshiped as gods. It feels like some weird kind of propaganda for submission.

I just don't like what they stand for. Yes, they do a lot of good with charity work and the like. I don't see why they should receive money our country generates to basically live off of. Fair play to the ones who actually have a job and serve for the country but they shouldn't receive the praise they do when normal people can and do play the same roles.

Shame about her death.

Royalty is an outmoded concept. Limeys need a good revolution.

Just sayin.

....or to take people's minds off the economic recession.

It's because the Royal Family generates shed-loads of money for the UK economy in terms of tourism. So it's in the government's best interests to maintain them. As far as I'm aware they put their profiles to good use through philanthropy, but yeah, generally I'm apathetic towards the traditions they embody. And I hate all that Union-Jack-waving business that seems to be the default reaction of the masses whenever the Royal Family comes out to play.

Anyway... Lady Diana, I was like nine when she died, so I remember little about her while she was alive. By all accounts she was a lovely lady, and she carried a charisma that everybody else attached to the sovereignty seems to lack... Except Kate Middleton... She has a lot of charisma...

It used to be the Pope`s job to confer sainthood on special people; these days it`s done by the newspapers, who whipped up a frenzy of grief for Lady Di.
Rather embarrassingly, on 31 Aug 1997, the news of her death arrived after the newspapers in England had already been printed and distributed. In fact, here are some examples of the press`s attitude to Diana, all printed on 31 Aug., before news of her death obliged journalists to do a U-turn:-

" Troubled Prince William will today demand that his mother dump her playboy lover"- News Of The World.
" Diana seems to relish her role as a martyr. God help her if she ever finds happiness - it would make her miserable" - Express On Sunday.
" It`s a pity Gucci don`t make designer face zips, then when princess Diana was on the verge of opening her ill-informed mouth and causing an international incident, she could just zip her trap shut." - Sunday Mirror.
" The Princess, I fear, suffers from the "Open Gob Before Engaging Brain" syndrome - a condition which afflicts the trivial and the brain dead" - Sunday Mirror.
" Diana has publicly said that the Tories were hopeless. It amazes me how this stuff is picked up as if it were compelling insight of Aristotelian wisdom and Shavian wit, as opposed to the witterings of a woman who, if her IQ were five points lower, would have to be watered daily." - The Observer.

In case you`re wondering, these quotes all come from an article entitled "The Mourning Papers" which neatly exposes the hype and hypocracy that Diana`s death generated.

I`m sure that Lady Di was charming and photogenic. To her credit, she used her position to promote various charitites, but she also cheated on her husband and waltzed away from a divorce with 17 million pounds in her pocket. My suspicion is that her posthumous sainthood doesn`t really tell the full story.
