Default Puppetry

I've been a puppeteer for 6 years, but recently had to stop because of school and two jobs. Jim Henson and Frank Oz are some of my heroes. Anyone here know anything about, enjoy, care about, or hate puppetry?

And to stay within the topics of the forum, here's a puppet thrash band. The video is pretty funny. And I have to say, the puppeteers are doing quite well with the puppets themselves. Good mouth movement and lip sync.

The only thing I know about puppeteering is that this is a really, really good documentary:

Pretty much this.

Used to be this band called Snuff Puppets here that used some pretty cool puppetry in their stage show. Don't know what they're doing these days though.

I've never watched "Being Elmo," but will do so immediately. It is now in my Netflix queue!

Haven't heard of the Snuff Puppets either. Just watched a few of their videos. Definitely a lot of skill, not sure what I think about a giant puppet flashing a bunch of people in public though lol.

And finally, anyone heard of Avenue Q? A musical taking Muppet-style puppets and putting them into semi-realistic life situations. The play takes on controversial subjects like racism, porn, self-loathing, homosexuality, suicide and a whole lot more. Have not had the opportunity to see it, it's never been near me, but the songs on Youtube are fantastic and the puppeteers have got some real chops. Apparently the play is somewhat autobiographical, with the main character being the person who wrote the play. It ends with the protagonist deciding that his life's purpose is to write a musical.

I had some friends who did puppetry. I dunno if they did well by it, as they did a lot of cocaine and so were perpetually broke, but they whenever we were hanging out before they had to "do a show", they'd get ridiculously high. The parents who'd hire them had to have known, but evidently didn't care because they'd always have birthday parties and other **** lined up year round.
