It's a shame that douchebags had to ruin tribal tattoos for the rest of us, because I really like your tattoo. It is comforting to know that tattoo removal is becoming easier to use because I have one major one that I need to remove.

Dr_Rez 05-02-2012 09:46 AM

@Freebase: Thats to bad I remember a picture of yours and it looked very well done. What mde you change your mind about having tattoos?

Also I predict in a decade they will be able to remove pretty much any tattoo nearly instantly. If you look at where removal was 10 years ago it has grown by astronomical amounts. I think a lot of people who do it however are just making room for new tattoos.

Freebase Dali 05-02-2012 02:13 PM

Mainly I just no longer see the point of having one, plus having one down your entire arm isn't so great for jobs.

FETCHER. 05-02-2012 02:17 PM

If I could get away with a sleeve, damn right I'd get one. They're sexy as hell on everybody.

Big Ears 05-02-2012 02:24 PM

I wouldn't have a tattoo, because I don't trust myself.

I always go into interviews with a long sleeve shirt. And if its a probation period will typically keep it on until thats over and they see im actually a good worker.

Granted idk what kind of jobs you are trying for.

Dude what tribe are you in?

I find it humorous that some of the posters here look down on getting tattoos, when it's one of the oldest and most revered art forms throughout human history. Getting something that has meaning or not, it still doesn't detract from the beauty of the tattoo. Sure, it has a lot to do with your personal beliefs but if I see someone with an amazingly well done tattoo I'm going to enjoy it purely for the visual aesthetic, and the same goes for someone having a "meaningful" tattoo. Life isn't serious, and your body isn't some sacred temple that should be free from modification. Do what thou wilt, haters.

Only as serious as you take an opinion to be... I also think 99% of your posts are nothing but inane, half-wit jokes that are boring even while under the influence of drugs and alcohol so :)

Well I think he does have a good point. And life isnt one or the other. People have to realize important matters such as health/family/providing are serious matters, but once the basic needs are taken care of we are essentially here to enjoy ourselves and have fun as much as people seem to forget that.

Tattooing is just one way of demonstrating to yourself or the world that you are here to have fun, and not simply become a walking zombie going to work and repeating that cycle forever. Now many people accomplish the same thing in other ways than tattoos. There is probably an infinite number of ways one can put excitement fun and meaning in their life (most will make it easier to get a job). You are not defined by what your job is but by the person you are and the things you have done for others.

Okay, but what does any of that really have to do with tattoos?

I think its a way of letting yourself know that you wont be around forever and not to let problems and events in life bring you down. Its a reminder of me to have fun. Nothing is permanent.

Tattoos make kind of a funny symbol for lack of permanence.

Thats exactly why I think its a good reminder. Its like the ultimate irony. You body is only getting older and itsnt yours. You will die and give everything back to the earth.

if you want my 2 cents, i don't think i'll ever tattoo any musical "idol" on my body

that's because my taste is constantly shifting

the only stable love are the Ramones only

hip hop bunny hop 05-03-2012 12:26 AM

^^^ I have a stick & poke tattoo on my chest that says "metal".... and, yeah, the "t" is inverted.

I still like it to this day. Dunno why.

I know 1 - ONE - guy with good tattoos. They have cost him A LOT. And still, not all of his tattoos are good.

Another factor I haven't seen mentioned is size. Large tattoos aren't normally done in one sitting and if it happens to be something that will be part of a bigger piece (like a full sleeve with fine detail and multiple colours) then you're far more likely than not going to need to pay for a redo on the oldest parts so they match with the most recent additions.

Also don't ever think a tattoo with any sort of fine detail is ever 'done' unless you want it to slowly transform into looking like crap.

Thanks? Though just like Janszoon I'm kind of confused as to this as well hahahaha :D And no, even if I think the OP is kind of foolish, you never know who's lurking and reading a particular thread (atm - ~20 members ~560 guests viewing the site). So for the silent majority of visitors to the site who might be considering the same thing I'll offer what I feel is legit advice.

So I'll repeat it one last time again (this is what the 74th time?) - DO NOT GET A TATTOO OF A FACE (OR A FACE TATTOO).

Haha, I don't really care that much, I really was just trying to bring the thread back on topic.

Personally, I think getting someone's face on you is dumb. Like everyone else said, it's extremely hard to replicate a face, unless you get a particularly good artist who can draw up a good stencil.

Secondly, as someone who has music tattoos, I would say it would be smarter to get a lyric tattooed, or the band's logo.

Also, don't ask a community for an opinion then whine we're you're being made fun of, you put yourself out there like that, don't be surprised.

Sansa Stark 05-03-2012 09:31 AM

Maybe you should learn to read before you go on the internet, then.

I feel like the whole people getting lines of text as tattoos trend is going to look as hideously dated as tribal armbands in a few years.

Sansa Stark 05-03-2012 09:36 AM

To be honest, I don't really care if they look dated. I still love mine, and it's been four years. Mine looks like a necklace though. I also waited a year to get the tattoo after I had the original idea. I still think it's an awesome line to get tattooed, I'm glad I picked the Smiths.

The Batlord 05-03-2012 09:44 AM

I've never really been much of a tattoo man, but I keep having this urge to get a tattoo of Megaman standing with both feet spread, and holding a communist Russian flag, posing like some old propaganda poster.

Four years isn't very long.

Anyway, I think it's kind of interesting how there are trends with tattoos. I never noticed that when I was younger. I don't think it was until we transitioned from tribal armbands to every indie kid on earth getting tattoos of stars that I started thinking about it.
