I read that as "This thread made me giggle in a stupid, irish way.", and was momentarily bamboozled.

I can throw in my opinion here as well. As GB and others have adviced you, getting a tattoo of Kurt's face on your body is a terrible, terrible idea. Getting faces right is hard enough. Getting them to look right on skin which sorta moves around is even harder. Plus, you're not gonna love it a few years down the line. Those of us well past our teens know that. I used to listen to punk and skate a lot in my teens. If I'd ever gotten a Johnny Rotten tattoo then, I so would have regretted it today.
edit : By the way, I do know people (notice how that's plural) with tattoos they regret ever getting so it does happen edit again : Tattoos have had their renaissance with Miami Ink and all that shit. They've been cool for years now. Isn't it about time they became uncool again?

Actually yeah, that is a point. It takes much, much better than your average tattoo artist to get a face right. With designs and patterns its a far easier thing to fumble through without getting it perfect, because the dimensions don't need to be exact. With a face, if its drawn even slightly wrong it will look nothing like the thing it is supposed to because theres a very, very clear model people can compare to.

Alright I can't help dogpiling on this trainwreck of a thread.
@the OP - People are calling you out on an obvious adolescent stunt because it's an obvious adolescent stunt. Also the fact that you called yourself MallyCobain which coupled with your use of -y'all- makes it impossible to not associate a certain Miley C. angle to your whole situation. Also to reiterate what Urban mentioned that seemed to get glossed over. Portrait tattoos are damn near IMPOSSIBLE to do properly. Unless you're willing to spend a significant amount of money it's going to look like crap a whole hell of a lot sooner than later. Another thing, like Janszoon's example above, detailed tattoos require re-working/re-colouring every couple of years if you want them to retain any definition. In short, yes it's possible to get a decent portrait tattoo. The fact that you'd turn to random people on the internet to help finalize your decision and reacted as flippantly and defensively as you did though, makes it quite apparent that the only thing you'll be tattooing onto your body is a mistake. |

My friend showed me her new tattoo of something from a videogame yesterday, and the dimensions and lines were just not quite right. And this was a very simple image.
Unless you're paying a reputable artist thousands of dollars for this tattoo, I really don't think you should go through with it--ESPECIALLY with a portrait, which can so, so easily come out devastatingly wrong. Come to think of it, I don't personally know anyone with a good tattoo. Everyone I can think of who has one has an atrocious piece on them clearly done by a total amateur. It's a lot easier to get screwed than you may expect. I'm saying this regardless of what you get tattooed, and whether or not you'll hate it in five years. EDIT: And now that I've reviewed the thread, I see I'm just repeating every post on this page. But that's because they're such important points. |
