At the moment, I've been hooked on Portico Quartet's Isla (2009). It's a really interesting jazz album that incorporates a bit of post-minimalism into its music (which was what originally piqued my interest). It's also extremely catchy... Change of the Century by Ornette Coleman is also a recent listen... The bass lines are absolutely magnificent, and I feel that he really improved upon and polished up the ideas that were present in his previous album (The Shape of Jazz to Come).
What about you? I remembering seeing that you were looking into a Messenger's album recently. What was your impression of it? |

Yeah, you might have seen my post about The Witch Doctor, which is terrific. I've actually downloaded a whole bunch of their stuff recently, all of it good. My top picks of the bunch, aside from that one, would probably be Hard Bop, Art Blakey with the Original Jazz Messengers and 'S Make It. |
