Erm, the BMI exists for a reason. The guidelines set by it are not arbitrary; they were established because what is - for the majority of people - healthy and unhealthy fall between these guidelines.

Claiming that the outliers are unhealthy is not cherrypicking; it's using averages. Claiming that most outliers are healthy because a minority are healthy outside of its bounds is, however, cherrypicking.

Lance Armstrong can handle this one for me, you're not worth my time.

Eh? How does that article contradict what I said? It stated: The study found that one out of six children who scored normal on the BMI scored a high percentage of body fat. One out of four children labeled as obese by the BMI scored a normal percentage of body fat.
- in other words, for 75% of the children labeled obese.... they were obese by other metrics. The one quarter you're referring to would qualify as outliers. Ditto for the 16.6% who qualified as healthy by the BMI but were shown to have a high percentage of body fat by other tests.
