I kid. I have never heard of this organization. It's true people shouldn't discriminate against others based on weight. But when their goals are "improving the quality of life for fat people..." I want to know what they want to improve.

How about exercise and good diet? That's the best way I can think of for improving quality of life, and making it last longer. Or do they just want to promote tolerance? Some people have made their bed, so...

Yeah I actually heard someone from the organization on some talk show awhile back. I don't remember which it was, but they were actually trying to dispute facts about how unhealthy being overweight is, saying the risks are overblown and whatnot. Alright.

Eh? How can you be fat through a medical condition? Unless food is magically finding its way into your body, you've got to actively try to be overweight.

^ It shouldn't be seen as a medican condition but some people have a slow metabolism, generally making them overweight.

Slow metabolisms. Giving overweight people an excuse not to eat right since 1650 (or whenever being fat stopped meaning attractive).

If being fat is simply a case of genetics (and I'm not saying it can't be) then you have to explain by genetics why some people in some countries are more obese than they are in other countries. Coming from Norway, we generally have higher standards of living here than in the US, but obese people are quite rare. I don't normally see any on the average trip out of the apartment. There are no obese people where I work. If obesity comes down to genes, then you have to explain why there the frequency of fat genes in Norway is so much lower compared to the US.

Some people have slower metabolism and may pack on a little more weight, but I personally don't think it makes people obese. Eating too much (bad) food and not moving around makes people obese.

I'll also note that I never meant it made people overweight. People with a slow metabolism have a tougher time keeping off extra weight and need more physical exercise. It is true that people with a slow metabolism who don't exercise generally are overweight

There has to be a more progressive way to encourage leading a healthy lifestyle than verbally abusing people.
