From a technological perspective, obviously the PS4.
From a games perspective, it's a tie between PS3/PS2. The PS2 arguably has the best and biggest games selection, but I was too young to enjoy it, and therefore the PS3 served my gaming needs throughout my late teens. |

PS2 by a country mile. I've owned a PS3 twice now and while the first time I had one it got stolen a few months after I got it, I never really played it that much. Second time I more or less just got it for The Last of Us but had a really hard time dealing with the slow frame rate and controls. Everything about the PS2 just worked for me. It had arguably one of the greatest video game libraries of any console many of which I consider to be absolute classics. I mean I know a lot of them were remasted or whatever for PS3, but I don't know if they really needed to be. I think the biggest problem with the PS3 was just the fact that it went for cell processing, which gave it untold power, but became a nightmare to program for, which is why so many ports for it were pretty lacking.
I have a feeling though that the PS4 could live up to the PS2's legacy so long as it is given the time and we don't rush out the PS5 in 5 years time because people want a new shiny black box to sit under their TV. |

Yeah, maybe the PS4, in time, will achieve greatness. But, right now, mine's little more than an expensive dust collector. And I know I'm not alone. It's telling that the most critically acclaimed PS4 games are all remakes of last generation games. Pretty sad state of affairs.

The PS2's library is honestly ridiculous. I'm even a Nintendo fanboy and if I had to pick just one console for the rest of my life it'd be PS2. There are way too many great games to ever get through

2 - 3 - 1
The Ps2 imo had the best rpgs. The Ps1 has more classic rpgs but the Ps2 had the SMT games that until then were mainly japan only releases, it also had games like kingdoms hearts and FF10, games that visually still look great and have aged alot better than Ps1 games. I don't have a Ps4 yet but like Pete mentioned i hope they release a diverse game library for it because that's what made the Ps2 great.

It's a sad reality but all those shiny graphics and shit cost a lot more money to make, which makes developers and publishers less willing to go all in right away. That'll change come next year when a lot of stuff is slated to come out, but it is kind of depressing to see that most of the content for the system is either multi-platform stuff that would have run on the previous console, or is just remasters of things from that console generation. If you do want stuff to use it for then here's some things I'd recommend. Don't Starve - Fun little sandbox survival game The Fall - Intersting step platformer/ puzzle game about robot A.I. Game of Thrones - Captivating GoT story by Telltale Games Tales From the Borderlands - Another TellTale game that is very well written. Hand of Fate - A really cool deckbuilding/story/beat 'em up game Apotheon - Pretty cool 2D sidescroller action game set in Ancient Greece with a cool pottery art visual design. Outlast - Nice little survival-horror/ stealth game set in an insane asylum Shadow Warrior - Fun FPS remake of the classic PC game. The Swapper - Really cool puzzle platformer where you create clones of yourself to solve puzzles, really awesome claymation art style. Only downside is these are all downloads so they will probably fill up that 500 GB hard drive pretty quick. |
