Try reading a book out loud. I find it drives out all of your thoughts and helps you stay neutral. I find the fact that you are saying the words helps prevent you from thinking too much about things that are bothering you.

You can also put a lot of thought into reading it in a funny voice.

I always feel like I understand a poem better when I read it aloud. It's also a lot of fun to do a crochety old man voice, especially with T.S. Elliot's works or Robert Frost's.

Whenever I have to read anything out loud, I pretend I'm like a 17th century Knight reading the manifesto of traitors to the Kingdom.
