I'm in the hospital and I'm BORED! What can I do?
Okay, so I had a bad bout of appendicitis. This is what I posted in the Mod Cave on Friday:
Quote:
I'm bored as fuck. I have a private room with a TV and Internet access (obviously), I have my laptop, iPhone (with music on it of course), some movies and TV shows, magazines, newspapers, and a couple of books. I also have some homework to do for school. But as someone with a fairly short attention span, I get bored really fast. I had some pretty major surgery done. Because my appendix ruptured, they had to go right in there and remove some other stuff and move shit around. I'm still on that damn liquid diet, although they are starting to feed me ice cream and milk because my doctor said it was okay. I can get up and walk around (they highly encourage that), but if I want to go farther than the hall that my room is in, they make me use a wheelchair so I don't rip my stitches open. Plus I get tired really fast. That's fine, at least I can get out of bed and go places. I'm hooked up to an IV machine so I have to roll that around everywhere I go. I'm in a private room and I can pretty much do what I want. The problem is, I've run out of ideas on stuff to do while I'm here. My parents, boyfriend, and friends come to visit me but when they're gone, time passes so slowly... I just want to have a little fun in the hospital and not get into trouble at the same time. Any suggestions? |

TV Tropes is a great website for the more geeky of us. Just look up your favorite book, television show, movie, band... whatever, really... and then read. And click links. And read some more. And click more. And get lost in it for over an hour.
If you like webcomics, go on an archive binge. Go to the first page and move on from there. I recommend The Order Of The Stick (DnD humor), pvpcomics.com (general geekiness humor), Multiplex (comic about the employees of a movie theater), Shortpacked! (comic about employees of a toy store), and anything else by the Shortpacked guy. He has links to all his other work on the website. You can also go to their "webcomics" section and find a HUGE list of webcomics in many different categories. Look around for one that fits your tastes. Cracked.com if you're interested in juvenile humorous articles and lots of Top 10 lists. Not usually "funny" per se, but there are some exceptions. Good way to waste time. StumbleUpon is excellent. Make a free account, enter in your personal tastes in the category list (which is enormous) and start "stumbling" to websites. Really good way to find... anything, really. I've used it to find humor websites, comics, videos, new music... very useful. Hope that helps. Get better! |

You could do some retro gaming. How about checking out The Curse of Monkey Island or Monkey Island 2 : LeChuck's Revenge?
You can run them both on a windows computer using the program scummvm. ScummVM also lets you play lots of other classic adventure games. Let me know what you think and I could probably help you find those game files you'd need. We're only talking a few MB per game. Lemme know what you think!

I'm quoting you all in one post here.
I don't want to become a murderer! That's pretty damn funny though and would be pretty fun if it wasn't extremely immoral and unethical. Quote:

first and foremost....i wish you a speedy recovery
i know exactly what you're going through....i spent over a month in the hospital and had a very similar procedure..... actually reading your description is almost verbatim what i went through....except they forced me to walk daily....but i was not allowed to leave the hallway ....it is seriously rough....i had family and at times friends would come by but time seems to just stop....or at least slooooooow down.....i actually think that the drugs are not just for pain but also to help you to keep your own sanity the liquid diet is horrible....but it sounds like you are on the mend to that WONDERFUL hospital food .....its good to hear that they are giving you pills vs an iv drip....this means your system is strong enough to digest i suppose my suggestion to you.....having been exactly where you are....is to relax, sleep, heal....the quicker you do these the sooner you're out and back to life sorry i don't have any better suggestions.....but in your situation there really is not much else you can do |
