Color me a hipster then /eyeroll

Let me just hop on my fixed gear bike and go get some Pabst.

I don't like it, and I don't use it. I didn't need the advice, I already follow that mantra. This *is* the "screw you apple" thread right? I've never seen any smartphone other than an iphone so I can't comment on them, but I bring my laptop with me everywhere and it does everything a smartphone does and a ton more.
"Oh noes, it doesn't fit in your pocket" Oh noes!

And for the record, if I had to pay anything for a phone, I wouldn't have one. My mom insists on paying for a family plan of regular ass phones from AT&T. She knows that I would rather not have a phone but she insists on being able to contact me to make sure I'm still alive. Hate phones.

I wouldn't call what I said advice, really. And yeah, this is the screw you Apple thread not the screw you smartphones thread. I think smartphones are freaking awesome, but I'm not shoving it in anyone's face telling them they need to go buy one.

It's not that I NEED something like this to fit in my pocket...it's just convenient. Not to mention it amazes me that computers that did less than a pocket calculator used to take up entire rooms...and now we have devices that could probably do some light bioinformatics in the palm of my hand.

i haven't touched an Apple product since the IIe

for music, I use a Samsung, for phones, I use Android

still, with everybody and his dog having an IPad, it's only a matter of time........

The old kindle looks like a good way to find really obscure books and read them without hurting your eyes (computer screens aren't eye friendly). I thought the whole e-ink idea was a pretty good one. It's a shame people won't buy it because they can't use facebook on it.

It seems that a lot of people don't realize that smartphones and tablets are used for more than social networking. They actually offer many other great, useful features.

edit: I thought the iPad has an e-ink app but I'm not sure. I don't have any kind of tablet.

Highly unlikely - the magnetic ink system that the kindle uses is rather different to the diodes that touch screen devices use. An app wouldn't fix that.

In slightly related news, it seems Siri has a Competitor, finally. Personally I'm rather thankful that someone has stepped up to the block, as it means I no longer feel obliged to get an iPhone of some sort just for siri :P

I'll reserve my right to bitch about smartphones as long as there's retards who are ****ing with them when they should focusing on walking, driving, or - my personal favorite - doing their ****ing job.

Eh? Alarm Clock, Camera, & "functioning phone"... are all available on standard phones.

The rest of the features you listed are not "useful"; for ****s sake, ease of access to facebook is an example of how utilitarian it is? Really?

k.

Firstly, I know. I am aware they are all available on standard phones. You failed to mention the rest of the ones I named. Excellent. Secondly, did I say utilitarian? No. I like going on to Facebook to keep up with friends and groups I am members of. My apologies. I should get a Nokia because all of this stuff is bullshit.

My Ipod Classic lasted me about 3 years. Still waiting to get another as I'm broke. My girlfriend's Ipod Nano she got a year ago has started acting up. Menu button only works when it wants to, sometimes it doesn't even recognize the charging cord.
