I saw a video on the Pieta earlier. Just looked at it and thought that is ****ing amazing, especially when you think he carved it 500+ years ago from one piece of marble with the tools that were available then. It's not like you can just add some marble back on if you take too much off.

hey i saw pictures of that this year in school. the textures still blow me away, the detailing on the hands and feet is ridiculous.

I read somewhere that the Jesus is 7' tall, so if Mary were to stand, she'd be 9' tall. Something about proportions needing to be preserved to make the sculpture look "correct".
