Why don't you tell me about him?
I've only heard one or two of his EPs, years ago. I don't own any, either. :(

Yea, being that VS is technically breakcore, I'd say the IDM tag that usually comes with VS is because of the way people use IDM as a relation to "wonkier" (for lack of a better term) styles of electronic.

Honestly, it could be argued that the same effect is at work when people term electronic music as "Techno", although with perhaps slightly less ignorance driving the tendency.

True dat yo. But I'm telling you: check out Kid 606. Kill Sound Before Sound Kills You is a great album.

I know the name, but I can't say if I've heard him or not. Checking now.

Just by searching him on Youtube and selecting the first result, Illness sounds very very familiar. Not sure if that song is from that album, but if so, this is definitely before my time of IDM exploration.

I like.

I refuse to let such a relevant thread fade away.

I've a mind to sticky the sh*t out of this.

Off Topic discussions... but isn't that what this entire subforum is for?

Also, I've always pondered about the idea that The Velvet Underground creating alternative rock in the 60s (twenty years before it technically came about). What do you guys think of this theory?

VU were probably the first to purposely choose weird topics and create weird music

but i think it already started way before then with Link Wray, who could technically be the first punk/metal act - "Rumble" would cause parents to shit in their pants

What about The Fugs, Godz, The Red Krayola, and The Mother of Invention?

IDM? You mean Like Autechtre, Aphex Twin, µ-Ziq, and Squarepusher? Those are all of the heavyweights in the "genre" even though they all sound completely different. I thought IDM was simply a way to pigeonhole electronic artists that can't be labeled, but who knows.

(sorry, too lazy to quote posts)
