Americans would actually be very beautiful if they just stopped eating so damn much. They have a very mixed gene pool from all sorts of places, and mixing is good, both for the immune system and appearance.

You're oversimplifying things here quite a bit.

Saying that Americans are fat because they eat too much is a bit like suggesting the economy is in the tank because people are out of work. Of course it's true, but what is more important is fixing the system that leads people to consume more calories than they expend.

I'm not making excuses. But the difference is palpable: walk onto a college campus or wealthy neighborhood (such as those in southern California) and you'll see the genetic profile of Americans is no worse than anywhere else. Ours is a crisis of education, not physiological health.
