Oh, Chinese restaurants...
I've seen one called Fook Yew before, if that qualifies. On the random subject of them, I once named a story I'd written after a Chinese that's up my local high street.

Like hiphop bunny`s contribution, this pub also has a name that you have to be a local to pronounce with any confidence :
Hautboy Inn, Ockham, Surrey, GU23 6NP - pub details # beerintheevening.com Well, maybe the name`s not that great, but if you take the trouble of clicking on "Image 2" in the link, you`ll see what a strange pub it was. It was like drinking in a church that had a bar instead of an altar. |

I actually know two bars in that francise, and they're both quite close to my house. It seems to be a popular place at the moment, probably due to a bunch of hipster douchebags wanting to be ironic by going to the most revolting sounding pub in town.

I've just been reminded of a pub up north called The Moving Stairs. It stands ou no only for having a cool name, but for also having a very nice facade that seemed to have been collaged together from things like tin sheets. The really interesting part was that the facade looked quite similar to the cover of a Death Cab For Cutie album that was released a couple of years after I saw the pub. The name of the album? Narrow Stairs, of all things.

One of my favorite bars in Chicago: The Hungry Brain.

I'm pretty sure it means "rat cellar" not "rape cellar". And it's just a German term for a bar that's below street level. |
