I'm convinced that when society endorses or even encourages the acquisition and use of guns for anything but hunting animals, that will generally speaking promote violence. Weapons made to scare, defend against or even kill people become a part of society and people's lives more so than they would otherwise, even to the people who don't own them, for example because they feel they might run into someone else who does. It changes the way people interact and think about eachother and even if that change in one individual is very slight, when it affects everyone, it can have a measurable effect.

DJ, I would feel safer with a knife at me because it's easier to get out of the situation than someone with a gun. A knife can be kicked or slapped away if you've got self defense training.

not when somebody just out of the blue conceals it and stabs you as you pass

edit - there are a lot of ways to kill with a knife or a sharp object if you've watched enough triad movies as I have

that's the thing about knives, most people that know how to use them well, will just go for the right spot and it will come out of the blue as they are passing you and you wouldn't be the wisest until it was too late. it's not like a gun where if you see them pointing it in time you can dodge out of the way.

Not saying that it would be the easiest thing to dodge but hey it could happen

Did you just claim that it's easier to dodge bullets than a knife?

@ DJchamelion

I'm done with debating you. It's pointless because you are pathologically incapable of considering anyone else's point of view.

I can't seem to find anything on the net about it, but aren't you supposed to be ten times more likely to shoot a family member than an intruder?

I'm currently searching the net for something solid.

I was done debating with you awhile ago, you came in the middle of me discussing my point with Jans which I don't mind, it's a public forum but you proceed to throw borderline insults at me because you obviously have some bone to pick with me.

I was over it along time ago.

Getting somewhat back to the original topic I've never ever found myself wanting to live in the U.S.
Seems to me to be the perfect place to live if you have money but if not then you're fucked.

Plus I also quite like the idea of subsidised healthcare and not have some bizarre obsession about having some kind of right of owning guns without being labelled a communist, even though in most civilized first world countries it's almost a given.
