Is Toronto The 'New York' Of Canada?
i wouldn't mind moving there..but only if its the new york of Canada
(as in, the alpha city) |
If that's your only basis for moving to the city, why not move to NYC?

If so, my answer is no. |

Is this thread the Detroit of this forum?

Why not ask someone who lives in Toronto, like me? :D I grew up here!
Toronto is easily the most populous city in Canada. As for similarities to New York, I would have no idea as I've never been to NY. However, I'm fairly certain that real estate and rental properties are a lot cheaper here (although still on the expensive side, especially downtown). Arts and culture here is just as lively as it is in NYC, in fact there are a lot of musicals and plays on Broadway that were shown in Toronto first. The Toronto Film Festival happens every September, so big name celebrities come to the city to promote their new films. But then of course, there are the downsides like crime and bad neighbourhoods and such, but I think the good outweighs the bad here. Oh, there is also a stronger economy and a stronger real estate market in Canada. Also, free health care for all! One thing I don't like is that the rest of Canada has this idea that people from Toronto think they are the from the "absolute best city in the country", or that we think we're better than the rest of them. That's totally not the case, generally speaking. Half those people have probably never actually been here, so I don't understand the logic behind their opinions of Toronto. |

I imagine Toronto being the NY and Vancouver being the LA. Maybe that's just me though.
But you don't want to live in Vancouver; it's more expensive than NY or London and is going to break off the coast any year now. |
Yeah, Vancouver definitely seems to have a more laid-back, west coast vibe to it. I have family out there and also in the Okanagan Valley. I've never been out that way though, they always come here to visit!

Whenever I think of Vancouver, I think of heroin.
|
Yes, but the real question:
Is Sydney Australia's Madrid? or: ...Christ, an entire post for this? |
I really liked Vancouver when I went up there, it's only a few hours away.

instead of selling your soul to the devil to go live in Canada. |
I like Toronto. I like New York. Both are cities. Both are in North America. The similarities pretty much end there for me.

I imagine Canada and America to have the same kind of hatred towards each other as Scotland and England. The given being that Scotland is superior.

In short, yes.
As for whether Canadians hate Americans, in short, yes. Not me though. |

I think when most people think of the general Canadian sterotype they mainly think of people from Ontario and Quebec. Albertans are *******s.
Also, I can't speak for people from the rest of the US but Texans are honestly the nicest people on earth. |

I said "I imagine". It's a weird relationship I have with English people. I want to hate them for several reasons, but just can't.
