Why? What's so unusual about Canada?

djchameleon 06-10-2011 07:24 AM

Nothing really, I just don't like how my irl friends are making it seem all the time that Canada is soooo much better than America

There go to card is always the health care there.

I don't doubt that canadians AND Americans are lovely people. It's just the way some people imagine it, seen as everyone thinks canadians are American. That kind of thing.

lol but Houston isn't a great representation of Texas as a whole though.

Be honest.

All of the major metropolis areas are fairly open minded. Austin is the capital and it's a very liberal city. Yeah we have conservatives and backwards idiots in some places but Texas is so large that it's unfair to form an opinion of one area and blast it to the whole state.

that's my point there are only about three or four major metropolis areas and Texas is filled with so many backward small towns it's about 250,000 sq mi.

El Paso, Dallas, Fort Worth, San Antonio, Austin and Houston. Most of the living is in major cities or surrounding suburbs. The rural areas contain the backwards people but the population is relatively sparse.

The most annoying thing is the wealthy oil republicans, which represent the state politically. There are quite a few of those, but on average people are no more racist than your typical paranoid suburban mother. The kind you find in every state.

I really don't see how Canada is any better than the US, aside from the health care system. Although that has it's flaws too - dental care not being covered is a huge one. I know people who haven't been to a dentist in years because they can't afford the private insurance or their work doesn't offer it.

I would love to live in Canada simply because they have legal gay marriage. I so love the country for that.

But I can't cause usually, only Filipino domestic helpers or care givers are allowed in Canada and no, i don't one to clean another old Canadians toilet seat. not for me. but would really love to go their though.

Yeah those oil tycoon republicans are able to lobby and keep things more right winged.

I know they are suffering from "grass is greener" syndrome and that's why I always have to debunk these fantasies that they have about Canada being far superior than the US.

That doesn't justify you saying that I have no soul because I'm Canadian.

I wonder whether the opinions about Toronto have changed. Do you still think so?

Yes they have. 15 years ago it was a thriving multicultural city where everything worked. Today it's no longer that.
