Best Childhood memories

One that sticks out is one day I came home off the bus in like 4th or 5th grade and in the driveway my parents were sitting there with a brand new ATV and had some snacks and **** ready for my sister and we just rode it like the whole day.

We also had a sick trampoline. I would go on it and my dad would stand far away form it in the grass and just throw me the ball for hours.

Other stuff like building a tree house with my dad and fishing with my mom dad and sister were really special. We went to Disney World and plenty of other **** but those kind of things don't even compare.

What are your guys best memories of childhood?

When I'd get pokemon cards, that was probably one of the high points of my day. Once, I remember seeing an opened thing of pokemon cards in Target and my mom said "take them" and so I walked out the door with cards in my pocket. I think that was the first shoplifting experience I had ever had. Oh, and the look on my face when I got a hold of a Japanese Mew, man, I cried tears of joy.

Thom Yorke 05-09-2011 05:28 PM

^ The Pokemon phase was quite enjoyable. My mom would never buy me single cards (probably due to the fact that they went north of $100 for the best ones), so I'd always get my hopes up that I'd get Charizard in a pack of cards.

Cottaging is my main one, whether it be with family or friends. We'd go up there for weeks at a time when I was younger.

BTown 05-09-2011 05:44 PM

Yeah dude I remember having a pokemon themed birthday party or some ****. I loved playing Pokemon Stadium on N64. I think some of the happiest times ive had playing a video game were Paper Mario The Thousand Year Old Door. SNEs was sick too.

I have many great childhood memories. Some of the most poignant involved me getting hurt though. Not to say they weren't fun. They were awesome.

I didn't have video games or internet and all that, but I sure did idolize McGuyver, and when I wasn't training to be a ninja in the back yard with misshapen sticks I'd sharpened to points on the cement, I was failing at making effective parachutes and bungee cords. My most crowning moments were the ever-dumb "garbage-bag parachute" tests off the roof of my house, and also the misconception that regular 2-foot bungee cords made for strapping things down would suffice as bungee cords to jump from the roof with.

I did a lot of roof jumping. Fortunately I never broke anything.
I also had great times in tree forts.

Ah the good old Pokemon days. I remember having a whole collection of movies, toys, cards, and a bunch of pokemon accesories. I don't know how my parents put up with all our begging. But the real memories come from my brother, cousins, friends and I all playing Yu-Gi-Oh. Yeah that's right, Yu-Gi-Oh, don't give me ****, it was a fun game. I'm talking first generation cards here, none of those new Ultra-Dynamic-Secret-Hybrid Rares or whatever they are called nowadays. We would have tournaments outside, it was so much fun. Playing for keeps, I remember shedding some tears when we played for our valuable cards and I lost, those were the real hardcore games right there. Those were the good old days. Going out to the store, buying a pack and opening it in front of everyone, with all the excitement that pieces of paper brought to you. Damn I miss those days. I don't miss the hundreds of dollars put in though, but it was worth it.

I jumped off a lot of stuff too dude. I tried umbrellas after I played Mario and Kirby.

:D I still play Pokemon actually. The actual game, not the card game. I'm currently raising an Arcanine, Dragonite, Exeggutor, Rhydon, Lapras, and I'm trying out some others for my last spot. Right now I'm toying around with a Paras.

I had a few Gameboy Colors myself, but that thing is a classic. Ecco the Dolphin, Sonic, Mortal Kombat, Beavis & Butthead, classic games.

s_k 05-10-2011 04:57 PM

I remember buying my first gameboy for 119 guilders back in 1991.
It was the first thing I bought of my own saved money.
I bought Super Mario Land 1 with it. It was epic.
I remember eating at pizza hut for the first time afterwards. It was a nice pizza, but I wanted to go hooooome :D.

My most vivid childhood memory is the day I turned 8. Somehow this was important to me. It felt like... getting older. It's the only birthday I remembered being really proud of. I was riding the BMX I just got (a real one, yeah!) with a very bright yellow shirt on. It was a nice summer's day and life was perfect that moment. I still see that shirt waving on the breeze. I even remember exactly where I was riding when I had that 'this is perfect'-feeling.
It was right HERE :).

Oh man, childhood was such a wonderful time.

I remember being six years old, and asking to play baseball. My mom collected baseball cards, and had like, 15 entire shoe boxes full when I was a kid. I remember going to a yardsale and buying a random box full of baseball cards for myself, and getting a John Olerud rookie card - I loved him because I thought it was cool that he wore a baseball helmet when he played in the field.

I remember that everyone on my baseball team was too scared to play catcher because they were afraid of the pitching machine, and I was the only girl on the team and wanted to prove that I was tougher than the boys, so I volunteered to play catcher - and I continued playing catcher until my senior year of high school (in softball).

I also remember pogs - everyone was crazy about those when I was a kid. Whenever we went to the flea market, I'd try to convince my mom to buy at least one slammer.

Also, Goosebumps books! We used to trade those at school all the time. I ended up reading every single book in the series, along with at least two dozen other kids at my school. I remember getting this one hardcover Goosebumps book with the first three books in one and when you opened it, there was a screaming sound effect. I loved that book.

I also remember doing all of the school plays, and being a complete showoff all through elementary school. I improvised an entire epic scene in the Thanksgiving play as a pilgrim in third grade.

I also have really fond memories of living on the Fort Bragg military base from 5th grade to 8th grade. I used to walk down the street in my housing area to my friends' houses, and we'd go out back to play basketball, skateboard, ride our bikes, and trade Pokemon cards / play Pokemon - I had a holographic first edition Charizard, two first edition Pikachus, a jungle Pikachu, and a few more first editions, so I was like a superstar amongst the neighborhood kids.

I also started a pop group with my neighbors. That was super fun - we wrote our own songs, and didn't completely suck, considering we were all between the ages of 9 and 13; I was 11 at the time. We wanted to be like The Spice Girls and TLC, but have lyrics like Jewel. It was definitely interesting.

God, childhood was fun!

when i get to play with my paper dolls.

The Batlord 05-11-2011 10:09 AM

I remember going to see Jurassic Park when it first came out like fifty times when I was like six. For years after, all I cared about was dinosaurs.

evi1gun 05-11-2011 02:51 PM

I jumped off a school roof holding a big 6 ft wide fishing umbrella. I hit the deck like a bag of sh*t!

I had a friend do a semester abroad in Europe. Apparently he and some friends were in Germany and some German guy they were chilling with told someone to get "eine ghetto blaster". They thought they were about to get shot.

Music related, I was eleven in 1967 and I bought the Rolling Stones "Flowers" album which included "Let's Spend The Night Together." My mother was upset and told me
"An eleven year old boy should not be listening to "Let's Spend The Night Together."

Pretty funny.

What's everyone's favourite memories? It doesn't need to be childhood only.

I have been reminiscing about my trip to Antarctica. We went on a ten day trip (as part of a scholarship), spent a couple of days before and after at Scott Base. We drove over to McMurdo base (America's) and had lunch (which was greasy disgusting nachos). We spend 7 days camping out on the ice on Ross Ice Shelf, carrying out scientific studies, visiting Scott's hut, rock climbing and abseiling, surveying Weddell Seals, and measuring snow stakes for a tutors PhD. My favourite part was when we had to make an ice cave to sleep in for one night. It took all day to build and we were all knackered by the end of it. My group (my hilarious friend Chris and Manual who recorded everything!) and my tent mate Jasmine had to built a toilet when we first arrived. Every night we would make a milo mixed with Baileys and on Christmas day Santa (the chef) came out with a beautiful roast meal as well as desert. We all got exceedingly drunk, I got told off for being noisy and a group of us took a bottle of baileys and we passed around a weather balloon to give us high voices (due to Helium). The McMurdo gift shop was fantastic, so many great things to buy! When we were at Scott Base we would go to the bar each night with a party when we first arrived and a party for New Years Eve. Unfortunately we never got to do the polar plunge (I really wanted to do it) because some douche bag **** in the shower. The staff assumed it was my group but I think it was other people staying over. I dressed up as Albert Einstein for a presentation which was fun. On the way home from Scott's hut we stopped to watch a Adele Penguin slid and waddle, it was happy as larry.

Here is a couple of videos and photos for those interested:

I've vague recollections of being taken to hippy music festivals with my parents, fishing in streams for frogs and newts, burying stuff in the garden, picking apples from trees, winkle picking in coves on the beach. Typical country bumpkin (or 'hick' as you might say in the States) memories really.

Pickup bball baseball and football games in the different neighborhoods I lived in. So fun

Trollheart 11-06-2013 05:17 PM

Call me stupid or slow, jess, but just what exactly did you survey the penguins about? What brand of ice they preferred? Whether they believed in global warming? If they were bothered that they were being associated with chocolate bars? And surely you'd think they'd be safe all that way out there on the ice without someone rushing up on skis with a clipboard saying "Excuse me, can I have a moment of your time?" Really!

Also, I disagree with Plankton: you're far cuter than a button. Or a whole bag of buttons.

ladyislingering 11-06-2013 08:33 PM

my childhood was confusing and unfortunate for the most part but one of my best memories involved my mom spinning records with me in the kitchen; I was about 3-4 at the time - she also taught me how to read, I was quite proficient and ahead of my peers when I started school (I was almost 4 years old, they treated me like some sort of child prodigy and I never understood why until I was much older).

and then there was this time when I was 13/14 when a friend of mine invited me over for the night and we went dancing/running through puddles and mud in the rain.

then there was a time when I was about 16, a very attractive boy delivered a single rose to my doorstep on Valentine's day.

there's more, but those are the bright ones that come to mind.

The one thing I remember the most about my childhood is carrying around my barney doll. I literally took it everywhere. Unfortunately I never knew where it ended up. A few Christmases ago, my grandma got me the same doll that I use to carry around with me. I always make sure to have it with me whether i'm traveling or moving. It's part of my childhood, even though it's not the same one, it still has the sentimental value.

I feel for ya hon; my mother passed away over 20 years ago now; I have nothing but fond and loving memories of her. My father, sad to say, is still alive and breathing air he has no right to...

One of my first childhood memories. I was in Florida somewhere and my mother took me to visit my aunt. We went into this clothing store. I feel like I was either 3 or 4 but at the time I loved hiding under the racks of clothing. Of course, this always pissed off my mother but I had so much fun jumping from rack to rack. I would run under the racks that were lined up against the wall to create some distance quickly. This memory ends with my mother driving away from the store while I'm looking out through the window in the backseat. The sun created a lovely orange hue as she drove down a hill and that image was permanently burned into my memory.
