As we talked about, if you want someone's attention in there, try spelling out their nickname.

F.ex "hello Tore and GuitarBizarre" instead of just "hello".

Most IRC clients will notify you when your name is written in chat. Without that notification, it's hard to tell if there's anything going on without checking. I usually leave my IRC client alone, but if I see the icon flash in my taskbar, I know someone's trying to reach me and so I check it.

He shows up, hurls an insult, then leaves when he doesn't get a response. He hasnt been in in a long while though.
